Being Cheltenham born and bred this for me is very meaningful to see and look back on and remember.I love my town with all my heart.It is so beautiful here with plenty to do and we are surrounded by gorgeous countryside too.

I lived in Cheltenham from 1963 to 1975, but not very much had changed by 1980. Almost every scene is very familiar and nostalgic. Thank you!

I remember when you could drive all through Cheltenham...outside Cav House and around boots corner, I was born 1981.....the Regency buildings still look the same today!. Thanks for the upload!

Being born in Cheltenham in 1948,growing up there,until 1969,when I emigrated to Australia, this brings back many memories. A lovely town to grow up in,have been back a few times,and find it not so nice now. Anybody remember Geraldines,and the Black Tulip?The Grotto,at the Wheatsheaf in Lechampton, The Daffodil,Gaumont,Colesium, Essoldo ect.Also shops like Mac Fisheries, Glostershire Dairy,Sharp And Fishers,Wards,Daniel Meals,ect.

Richard Bullock You're a couple of years ahead of me, I was born in Cheltenham in 1950 and lived there until 1963 when I moved to Winchcombe. Yes, I remember Geraldine's and the Black Tulip and stores including, Wards, Daniel Neil's, and Shires & Lances. As for other shops and eateries, how about the Cadena (Promenade and High Street), Brunners (Clarence Street) and even Boots had a restaurant. Remember all the cinemas too plus the ABC formerly the Regal all of which are now gone and replaced by a multiplex down the Lower High Street where the Whitbread Brewery once stood. I moved from Gloucestershire to South Wales almost 20 years ago and have been back to Cheltenham only a few times since them. Some parts are little changed and bring back fond memories so it was great seeing this video, but there are some parts that have changed out of all recognition, and not all for the better. Even so, I still feel a connection with my birthplace and visiting always brings memories of my childhood flooding back.

Hi Atlantic, nice to bring back a few memories, and thankyou for you reply. I worked for Whitbreads,when it was called West Country Breweries in the 1960s, around 1964 to 1965,there were still a lot of pubs in the town at that time,sadly many have now gone.I recall Cavendish House having many departments, namely a furrier, hosiery (stockings),and stationery. A couple of more names now disappeared, Banks,books and stationery, Timothy Whites,chemist,Chappells,delicatessen, Gloucestershire Dairy,Lawleys,china,Tillys,crumpets, and of course Woolworths, to name a few. Happy,and carefree days.

Yes still live Montpellier Parade since1978! Yes it's changed since Town Hall dances sat nite and all folk came down from Oxford and allwent Aussi,

The massacre of one of the oldest buildings in Cheltenham, The plough Hotel and it's old arched coach entrance (1.46) was a great mistake. It should have been incorporated into the design of the Regent arcade which is soulless. The Strand is shabby now when once there was Woollies next to it and cafe tables and Chairs to brighten it up. Cav house is a shadow of what it once was with that beautiful food hall. Nice to see a world before mobile phones when people talked to each other in Person and actually looked up rather than down.

@@Traceishere Yeah, cos Cheltenham is FULL of people from outside borders. Come on, the demographic is still 99.99% white middle-class. Your argument might stand some weight in London but, nah, if you want to blame anyone or anything, perhaps look at the influx of students when the uni was built, or the decay generally of standards among the youth. The Johnny Foreigner card is too easy.
