I believe a stromboli has sauce inside and a calzone has sauce on the side. I could be mistaken, but that's what I've been told. I love them both!

The difference between stromboli and a calzone is ricotta cheese. :)

Calzone is made with a circular dough folded in half over the ingredients while a stromboli starts as a reactangle dough and rolled over itself over the toppings. Rhey both have sauce on the inside and calzones usually have ricotta

I’ve never got a calzone with sauce on the inside; they always present it on the side. Every Stromboli I’ve ordered has had sauce inside.

It’s just how it cooked.. they weigh everything out before cooking. Challenges like this either have a written or verbal contract stating the rules and how much everything weighs/portion size. Sure sometimes there are a few shady places that change sizes and all without notice but that’s not the case here.

2:44 The difference between a stromboli and a calzone is what you ate is a calzone. Stromboli isn't a filled pocket like the calzone is, it's supposed to be rolled up with the filling ending up in layers between the dough. I've never seen a stromboli with sauce in it either, I've only had calzones with sauce in them. I've seen so called "Italian" restaurants say the exact opposite of that, but they are wrong. Either way, those are probably about 10-20% larger than the calzones my old boss used to make for me at the pizzaria I worked at. Next time I'm back in Michigan I'm gonna have to remember to look that place up and try one.
