This is typical in extremely tall players. You see it with Evandro as well who is a decent blocker, but he doesn't jump all that much. Doesn't have to since he's 210 cm tall. I think at those heights keeping your balance can be a struggle so you want to keep both feet on the ground as much as possible. Not to mention the impact on their knees.
