Ingredients 🍔
For the dough:
- 100ml milk (½ cup) (3.4 fl oz)
- 15g sugar (1 tbsp) (0.5 oz)
- 5g yeast (1 tsp) (0.2 oz)
- 265g flour (2 cups)(9.4 oz)
- 5g salt (1 tsp) (0.2 oz)
- 1 egg
- 35g butter (2 ½ tbsp) (1.25 oz)
For the patty:
- 400g ground beef (1 ¾ cups)(14 oz)
- 15g Worcestershire sauce (1 tbsp) (0.5 oz)
- 7g molasses (1 tsp) (0.25 oz)
- 5g mustard (1 tsp) (0.2 oz)
- 3g salt (½ tsp) (0.1 oz)
- 2g black pepper (½ tsp) (0.1 oz)
For the filling:
- 1 red onion (~150g)
- 15g butter (1 tbsp)
- 8 slices of hamburger cheese (~200g)
Additional:
- 1 egg yolk (for brushing)

Instructions👩🍳
1. Prepare the Dough:
- In a bowl, mix together milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- In another bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and one egg. Mix until a dough forms.
- Incorporate the butter and knead the dough for about 10min until smooth and elastic. Rise about 1hour.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal parts and let them rest for an additional 15 minutes.
2. Make the Patty:
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, molasses, mustard, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Form the mixture into 4 patties and refrigerate until needed.
- Cook the meatballs for 1 minute on each side over medium-high heat. Let them cool to room temperature.
3. Prepare the Filling:
- Slice the red onion thinly.
- In a pan, melt butter over low heat and caramelize the sliced onions until golden brown. You can add a splash of water to help with the caramelization process.
4. Assemble and Bake:
- Preheat your oven to 360°F (180°C).
- Roll out each portion of dough about 20cm wide.
- Layer each dough with cheese, cooked patties, caramelized onions, and additional cheese.
- Fold the sides of the dough over the filling and seal tightly.
- Place the stuffed bread on a baking sheet, seam side down.
- Brush the top of the bread with egg yolk and sprinkle sesame seeds over it.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes at 360°F (180°C), then reduce the temperature to 320°F (160°C) and bake for another 10 minutes.
- Once baked, remove from the oven, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rest for 5-10 minutes.
5. Serve and Enjoy:
- Slice the stuffed cheeseburger bread into portions and serve warm.
