I am thinking about buying the macbook air 13 inch 128GB 4GB RAM for my studies. I am currently finishing off my two last years of high school lot of science projects and so on. And after that I will be using it for my medical studies in university. So what I will be using it for is pretty much just projects, essays, papers, presentations, browsing the web and normal everyday tasks. No form for video editing or anything like that. If you want too keep it for more than 2 years, then you should get the upgrade to 8gb, as 4gb will be a bit outdated in a short period of time.

128GB would be very limiting. Get a 256GB model instead. You can get by with 4GB ram, but 8 GB will give you so much more room. It'd well worth the extra cost.

This Mac has the capability to connect to a full 1080p display. The native resolution for the 13" model is 1440 by 900, so essentially it is between 720p and 1080p HD. Retina is different, as it has many more pixels than a full 1080p HD screen. Retina has so many pixels and they are so close that theoretically the Human eye cannot see them. :)

I would definitely recommend the Macbook Air for college students! Especially the New current Air models! There simply amazing! Only thing to consider is Hard drive space, if 250gigs is enough, your fine! If you need more, a 512gig is available but at a $300US additional cost. Everything else will me more than enough. Especially the battery life on these beauties! 11inch gives you 9 hours battery life and the 13inch a whopping 12 hours! That's just amazing! All the best, be blessed, Harry

Hello, sorry about that, got mixed up, I have a Macbook pro too! I find that its perfect for "on the couch", "in bed", "out of the house" use! for everyday & doing loooong hours of actual work/study its still good...! Personally, I love LARGE screen real estate! LOVE IT. Nothing comes close to it for me! If I only had the option of one Mac & that was my main machine! I'd go for a 15 inch! size & weight = Perfect. But it depends on what you need it for? I am doing 3D graphics in openGL (but only soma basics), java applications, PHP , C++, evolutionary algorithms using openCL. Switched to MAC from HP laptop and I could not be happier!!! Actually I know loads of programmers which use MAC ( My college teacher is huge Apple fan and also one of the first people who combined genetics algorithms and theory of chaos). So you could say i am doing advanced task on my MAC and i still prefer it over win :) It is just ridiculous how some people hate Apple

I did a search for you and found that most lean towards a MacBook Pro, which has more USB slots, a FireWire port, larger storage, speedier CPU, higher-resolution screen, and SuperDrive which is supposedly important in composing? but you still have more power. yeah SSD is faster for loading data and booting. but the MacBook Air is meant for portability, then anything else. plus you get the built in superdrive. go check the MacBook Pro out. you may end up getting it.

PC - Microsoft Macbook - Apple You can download a program that when you open it up, exactly like a brand - new windows 7 with all of the documents you have in a usb, close the program, back to a good macbook. Hope this helped!

With the sold state hard drive, it makes using programs like Adobe pleasant. It all depends how intensive your photo editing will be? I have not issues. I always suggest going into a Apple store & firing up a Macbook Air and using it to do some things, See if they have Adobe photo installed on the Air & try it out, heck if they don't, you can try a 30day free trial, if they'll install it on for you? Hi, you can do a Google search on the programs you want to use and see if they are available on Mac. If they are, I can personally tell you, installation is not harder than on a Dell Microsoft windows machine! Go into a Apple store and play with a Mac, get comfortable with one and ask many questions in store! You should try to go for the i7 model if you can, if you want to play games. I'm guessing you play Minecraft, which will run on max settings at a high fps on the Air. You won't be able to play games like Crysis 3 very well, but you can play things like LoL, Starcraft 2, World of Warcraft, and TF2 on high settings, and even Battlefield 3 on lower settings.

I have the 13 inch and I really can't imagine going any smaller. I used a 17" laptop for 4 years, then a 15" for 2-3 years, and the 13 now feels rather cramped at times. Websites seem much less spacious on the 13" screen, unless I reduce the zoom/text size to an uncomfortable level. I'm getting used to it, but still, I think 11 inches would just be too small for me.

Your statement is generally true regarding 13" being the smallest one'd want to go. However, there is an exception. For example, an 11" Macbook with retina display is easier to read than a 13" MacBook Air without retina display. The retina with its smaller pixel size make small text much sharper and noticeably easier to read than on the Air.

I guess I should of been more detailed with my "why I purchased" Truth is, my back gives me trouble & I'm in pain many times, which makes sitting at my desk very difficult. Also when I have to be off my feet because I'm in a lot of pain, laying down for long periods gets quite difficult with a 17". So this is why I have opted to go for the Air as a add on! Oh also carrying the 17" is hard on my back as well. Other wise I'd of just kept using my wonderful 17". All the best, be blessed, Harry :)

I got MacBook Air mid 2013 1,7GHz i7,8GB of ram, 512GB SSD and no issues whatsoever. I moved from MB Pro 17" late 2011 with i7 2,4, 16GB of ram and 256SSD and it's doing amazingly well. At home I connect it to Apple Display 30" and it works like a charm. I would recommend it any time.
