Stuhna Missiles Help Ukrainian Troops Keep Russian Armor At Bay Near Bakhmut

Stugna is amazing. - No heat signature so it can't be spotted by thermal sights. - operators are safe from return fire - Its not just a anti tank weapon, they can also be used for intel and scouting. Simply brilliant.

Ukrainians even shot down few helicopters using this system. It has a few disadvantages, or quirks some would say though. Since Stugna is a beamrider, it means that the launcher is emitting a laser beam to guide the missile to its target. That gives an enemy the possibility to detect the launch using laser warning recievers and counteract - launch smoke granades, get to cover or eliminate the launcher unit guiding the missile. Laser beamrider missiles are also only an LoS (Line of Sight) weapons, which means you have to see the enemy to hit him - you cannot guide the missile over the hill for example. You also have to guide the missile throughout the whole duration of the attack. But when this heavy missile hits its target, there is nothing left at all!

There is a heat signature, and it most certainly can be spotted by thermal sights. Operators arn't immune from return fire, but it IS harder to spot them due to the remote nature. But this also makes it harder to reload the launcher. What's more, Stugna is also a much heavier system than say Konkurs, so you need more manpower to field it. There's benefits and drawbacks to both systems, so you can't really declare them better or worse.

@@Orcawhale1 I mean duh, everything has a heat signature. The question is wether the stugna is colder or warmer then the environment it is placed into. Human bodys generate heat, thats why we have a recognisable heat signature. A Stugna does not generate heat. The motor controlling the launcher is electric and even if it moves, the heat generated by the electric motor is very low. Otherwise the Stugna will blend in with the surrounding temperature. Combine this with other techniques of camoflage and it becomes nearly impossible to detect.

Not really. It's already beaten by NLAW and Javelins, along with more cost effective solutions, such as TOW. It's a decent system for Ukraine, but to declare it this huge succes, because of this is just dumb.

@@Orcawhale1 nlaw and javelins dont have long range compared to stugna for 1, for 2 stugna has more armor penetration but what javelins and nlaws beats it down to is that they are using the rocket or missile from a different angle to get more effective damage, and 3 nlaws and javelins are freaking expensive per missile what are you smoking? most success we seen so far is from stugna, i have heard many stories of soldiers (US volunteers) that javelins have 1 big flaw, you cannot shoot through dense forest or obstacles like you can do with stugna, you risk the missile to get caught by some branches trees etc. and also stugna is much much cheaper for its effectiveness. also javelin and nlaw u need to have a guy holding that weapon and be on clear line of sight which means he can easily be spotted and shot on sight lol. so tell me again what u talking about, both systems are effective both have cons and pros. and i just named you a few.

Stugna P is very effective and far more affordable than Javelins et al (around $20,000 per missile versus $78,000). Double the range (5 Km versus 2.5 Km) and just as effective. Nice to see it doing it's job against the Orc's.

No doubt when the war is over and Ukraine emerges victorious then they are surely going to use all the experiences they have to be one of the strongest militaries in the world. With experience in using both western and soviet weapons, I am sure many new technologies and designs are going to emerge from Ukraine making it one of the leading new weapons suppliers.

It looks like a good weapons system, tailored for defensive warfare. The systems it replaces are better used for rapid advances in the offensive stage of warfare. Glad to see that this was developed to minimize the loss of life for its users because it demonstrates that Ukraine values their soldiers far more than other countries. When Ukraine prevails, they'll probably have any number of countries lining up to purchase this system.

I imagine that war will be a wholly automated activity in the future and realize that dystopia is always right around the corner. Our world is fragile, but perhaps the horror of this latest one, publicized and broadcast around the globe, will convince people around the world to work harder for peace.
