Stunning Purple Herons : filming wild birds at Lake Kerkini in Greece

Dear Friends,
This vid has been a couple of weeks in the making having been distracted by other obligations since the first couple of days shooting a few weeks ago.. so no photography as such in this one but plenty of wildlife footage for you to enjoy...
The Purple Herons are trying to make a comeback here at Lake Kerkini.. after many years of not nesting here and only a few individuals around the lake during the summer. This is now the second year in a row they are attempting to nest here again and in larger numbers.. I counted 8 pairs... let's hope they are successful..!

I can't help bu think that if we are seeing this beautiful footage for you tube that your shots for the documentary are going to be truly amazing. Honestly, I have watched countless documentaries on wildlife and other subjects, but I never expected that wildlife photography would have such a big impact on me. Especially when I thought that this is a type of photography that I would never do. 😀

@@GeorgeSBlonsky well photography in general is addictive to me, so another one of its subjects won’t do any harm. At the end of the day it will be one more thing to spend money on. I am starting to consider getting a 150-600mm lens so I can practice more. I think it would be more than enough to cover my needs and price wise it’s something I could afford with a bit of saving money. The big primes are out of the question of course 😀

It’s an excellent lens to start with and gives a lot of flexibility! You don’t need to get too hung up on the big primes.. and you’ll learn better how to approach wildlife.. wish you all the very best..! g

@@GeorgeSBlonsky thanks George! I appreciate the reply. You are absolutely right. Considering also that I am not a professional my needs will be covered with this lens. The big primes cost as much as a medium car in Greece so there is no way I could afford something like that and realistically I don’t need such a thing. The most important thing is to enjoy doing what I like and get the best results with my gear. And above all practice, practice, practice! 😃
