Always thought the 787 didn't have a roar sound. Well, I put on headphones, and I hear a roaring sound after rotation. Epic!

Such an elegant engine shape and so incredibly quiet at taxi thrust... wow... but that was quite a long taxi! :)
@captaingarethpayne91237 жыл бұрын
I am a captain that often flies in and out of Heathrow. The taxi distance is quite normal, but the volume of departing traffic is quite incredible. What you witnessed here was very normal. And for us in the cockpit annoying. The longer we stand, the more fuel burn. The more we monitor idle systems. Cost control is very important to the airline and holding both airborne and on the ground costs a lot of money.

I really don't understand why people say the A350 is quieter. I've heard plenty of Go Pro vids from this seat right next to the engines, and the B787 is quieter in all of them. I wonder if P&W's geared turbofan concept will ever be scaled up to have this kind of thrust. It's supposed to be incredibly quiet at any thrust thanks to letting the fan be bigger and have lower angular velocity for the same thrust (avoids the mini sonic booms at the fan blade tips that make the GE90-115B so damn loud even at higher thrust).
@allmyothersubscriptions6 жыл бұрын
Have you actually flown in a A350 or a 787? Videos are not an accurate depiction of the sound environment within a plane!!!
@patrickproctor34626 жыл бұрын
I have flown in a 787 with Air Canada. The hydraulics are audible, but other than that, it's a damn quiet plane. Not the point. As long as the same camera and defaults are used, you get an accurate comparison for the decibels, regardless of the quality of the sound in the environment (the more people, the quieter since human bodies absorb a lot of sound).

That sound at 14:45. I heard some times during takeoff in any airplane, but, if Pilot and Co-pilot are working on takeoff and tripulation are seat, why that sound means?
@clifflee54047 жыл бұрын
Ismael Teixeira are you talking about the shaking noise? I bet it has to do with something with the wings and it's making the transition from no load/partial load to--> full load on wings and etc. at that moment in takeoff the wings are taking huge load transition. They go from being relatively flat to being bent and swept up like the newer boeing wings are supposed to be. It's really noticeable if you see a 747-8 or newer they look even more swept up because the wings are longer. and yes I've heard it too many many times on all planes.
@ismaelsilveira7 жыл бұрын
Cliff Lee thank you for explanation, but I think that sound is more like a chime than a shaking, but I really thank you for your time to answer for me.
