If I ever come into money Mackinac Island and Keukenhof are where I'd go!!

Mackinac Island has 500 year round residents but it takes 5000 people to run the island during the tourist season April through October! All you need to do is get a job on the island and there are tons of jobs! A lot of them provide housing! So, you don't have to be rich to experience living here. 🙂🌺✌

I'm so glad we got the chance to give you your first impression of the island! It's a beloved and very special place. It's located in Michigan, just east of the Mackinac Bridge in Lake Huron. Check out Mackinacisland.org for visitor info. The folks there are great. The island has a very fascinating history from the original native inhabitants and the role it played in the fur trade, a military fort and a historical battlegrounds. The island is now a travel destination that was recently named the number one island destination in the country by Travel & Leisure Magazine in 2022. The Grand Hotel boasts the largest covered porch in the world and two movies were filmed here, one of them being "Somewhere In Time" which has the second largest cult following of any film. The island banned the use of automobiles long ago, so bicycles and horses are the only way to get around. Our mail is delivered by horse towing a flatbed trailer and the only way to get to the island is a 20 minute ferry ride from either St. Ignace or Mackinaw City. Oh, and the gardens on the island are incredible and there are many large rock formations. Arch Rock is a Michigan icon. It's definitely worth a visit, especially overnight because many of the day visitors leave, so it quiets down in the evening and you feel like you're really stepping back in time. Okay, that's my pitch. Haha. Have a great day. 🙂✌

In 2021 a massive fire destroyed Brigadoon cottage. In 16 short months it was restored to its former glory. The cottage is across from the yacht club. A wedding reception was taking place at the yacht club and the guests had to be evaculated durning the fire. The town came together and moved the wedding party down the street to Mission Point resorts. Many competing hotels and restaurants lent food for the party. Many of the gardens in this video was designed and maintained by Jack Barnwell. Brigadoon, Island House, Iroquois and the baskets on Main st all designed by Jack. Jack Barnwell has a You Tube channel. He goes into great detail on his projects. Remember what he does is all muscle power. No trucks and cars allowed on the island.

⚜As much as I love Mackinac Island, I have to say, I don't think I've ever seen sadder looking horses. I'm not sure they're treated well, and I sincerely hope they are not forced (like slaves), to trot all over that island, day after day, every day of the week, without so much as a single day of leisure! Can you imagine having to do that? Horses have feelings too, you know. They're not machines, and I resent anyone, who treats them as such.

Any idea what that plant is at Anne cottage around 13 minutes that is green with salmon pick petunia-like flowers?
