AGREE 100! I still represent Death Row with a shirt, at it's peak there was and will never be a label like it. Sadly it didn't last, in hindsight some things could have been handled differently, but I'll never forget the legacy it's left, when Pac came aboard, that was the Chicago Bulls 72 wins, which ironically was happening the same year, just the dominances, I was 14 then, so to think things peaked for music, NBA at the age I woulda never guessed it it, but I will always represent Death Row, Pac, and I even have love for Suge. Yea Suge was a rough dude, but IMO he was real, which I respect, he wasn't into the demonic lucifarnian stuff you see in the music, entertainment industry, he was a straight alpha male from the streets, so while everyone cheered his incarceration, it hurt seeing that, pray one day he gets out.

Today, as a 90's teenager, I still hold Death Row in high regard as much as Ruthless Records for musically making the streets something worth admiring. But on the other hand, After Dre left DR, and things started unraveling as I discovered more of what went on behind the scenes, I began to think a lot of things just wasn't necessary to maintain success. No hate, but the label truly played itself in the end.

I know this will not be a popular statement to say, but I think Tupac coming to Death Row was the beginning of the end for the label. Think about all of the artists that were on Death Row, the greatest producer in Hip-Hop history { Dr. Dre } iconic artists like Snoop Dogg, and more. When Pac came to the label he bought a lot of talent and passion but also a lot of negativity. His actions beef'in with the East coast separated him from the other artist on Death Row and Dr.Dre. Pac's beef was not theirs, but he wanted them to back him up, many refused. A number of Death Row artist album releases were put on hold because of Pac and that changed the morale of the label, a number of those albums were definitely going gold or platinum or better. Pac getting into the fight in Vegas { which was not his beef } led to Shug going to jail, and with Dre no longer at the label, it truly began to crumble. If Pac never came to Death Row, the label would still be around to this day, and very successful.

A major problem with Death Row is that they didn’t know how to let more than one person shine at the same time. People’s shit got put on hold to cater to Snoop, then to 2Pac. We could’ve gotten Rage’s album sooner, which would’ve been bigger if it dropped before 1997. We should’ve gotten more from Tha Dogg Pound. J-Flexx should’ve had an album on Death Row, the Helter Skelter album…etc. Putting everything behind 2Pac wasn’t a solid long-term move even if he didn’t get killed. By all means, Pac was the general, but that’s not a reason not to have strong soldiers able to support the label.

The real reasons why Death Row Records fell apart is because first Dr. Dre the main producer and the one who oversaw the other artists careers left. Then 2Pac who had just became the main superstar of the label died, Suge Knight then got locked up from 1997 - 2001 so he wasn't able to manage the label properly and the careers of the other artists that were there, plus the new ones that came in and he had to release a lot of old material from previous artists without their permission to keep the label from going bankrupt, which it did anyways. Snoop Doggy Dogg the last main star of the label ended up having beef with Suge Knight/Death Row and left the label and went over to No Limit Records and finally Daz Dillinger another main producer that helped the careers of others left the label soon after

No mention of Malik from illegal ...Snoop met him while he was on tour...just like he crossed paths with other artists...he was a teenager who could spit like a grown man with battle cipher experience...he was DPGC and featured on " Doggystyle"...Dr Dre is not just a beatmaker... he is a executive producer who mastered the studio control board...Jimmy Iovine who owned Interscope Records and former producer/ engineer for Aerosmith and Bruce Springsteen ...realized that Dr Dre was a perfectionist who could mix his own music at his own music...Suge Knight was a great businessman but not creative like Dr Dre ...who had the vision to create something out of nothing...in the studio...he started off as a bodyguard to Bobby Brown who played Football in College and in the NFL briefly...with a few street connections...no mention of Dick Griffey and SOLAR Records...or the incarcerated Heavyweight West Coast street legend Harry O who helped Suge & Dre on the business side and music side of Death Row...giving them capital and a studio/ office space to work in when they only had a 24 track control board and the music equipment Dre had in his house with no furniture and a leased Ferrari Testarossa parked next to a 64 Chevy Impala...I must admit not signing Warren G was a major loss...he was on the Above The Rim soundtrack and scored a big hit with " Regulate " that Def Jam benefited from ...probably more so than Death Row/Interscope because it set him up for the platinum record sales of his debut album and they did not release a Nate Dogg album in time to capitalize on that success...even the Dogg Pound record should have came out as soon as Doggystyle was cooling off ...eventhough Murder Was The Case ...the long form video and soundtrack was a brilliant movie...the same thing should have been done for Pac's double album...a long form video or mini movie with Death Row artists as supporting cast members ...but that is the past ...it is time to move on!

Hood mentality wasn’t the main thing that messed it up. Death Row was born out of theft (stolen from Harry O) and that’s how it ended. Suge was basically a Puffy that didn’t care about his image

They could’ve got a classic album out of Lady Of Rage, Warren G, Sam Sneed, Kurupt Solo, Nate Dogg and the Dr. Dre/Ice Cube album that got scrapped but they fumbled it. Who knows how many of the upcoming artists even from different areas who would’ve signed there if it wasn’t so reckless and non professional. Imagine if Puffy and Suge would’ve made money together instead of Suge turning on him trying to extort him ( and everybody else). Still great but they settled for less.

Bow wow was 9 in 96-97 when Pac died/Snoop left. Nobody in mid 90s was going to buy a 9 y.o. Bow Wow album. He popped in 2000 like he was supposed to, in the glossy era.

Just alone by starting classic albums The Chronic, Doggystyle and Dogg Food w/o even including All Eyez On Me everyone was rich/set for life(classic albums till this day being sold) BUT money and greed drives people to do thing's they shouldn't do.
