Idk if it's legal in the UK but in America its completely illegal to text and drive. Quite frankly people who text at a light have no problem texting and driving. You are suppose to be fully alert while behind the wheel and being on your phone is a distraction. So many people are texting and driving now and a lot more people are dying because of it so telling someone to put their phone down at a light could have literally just saved someone's life.

I really don't see an issue with checking your phone while your stopped. I'm probably gonna get destroyed for saying it but the worst you're gonna do is go a lil later when the light turns green. And if you check the light every 1-2 seconds, that won't really happen. Especially if you know the light schedule.
