Yes its confusing going from them doing JMK and then to Mario being knocked out after a fight, but thats the way this was made. To those asking about the song at 4:53, that was part of the Samurai Shampoo soundtrack. It has been brought to my attention that the music for that particular interactive adventure was all original, and seems to have been made by someone Richie knew himself. If this is true, it looks like the song will be unobtainable unless they or Richie were to publicly release it themselves, assuming they still have it saved.
