I think one of the issues with this race - and I racing in general - is that people see wrecks in front of them and think: "That's a position!" They don't slow down, and they just pile in the wreck and make it worse. I don't know why people don't just back off, get past the incident, then go. It's still a position, regardless how fast you go past.

@DaveCamYT We can agree to disagree. iRacing doesn't happen at 0.25x speed. Between the time you put your nose barely passed his rear bumper, and the time his spotter would have said anything, he was well committed to his line. To expect him to change his line vs. you backing off is unreasonable. There's a reason it looks like you crashed into him at 1x speed. Edit: All that being said, the content is still good and enjoyable. Keep on doing it!

Dave, should we be sticking our noses on the inside of the corner? I’m still learning but if the following driver only has the tiniest portion of their car side by side they should back out. Interested to know your thoughts on this!

In F1 it's a no, but for me if I get my car in a position to make things difficult for the other driver I will. It doesn't mean I have the corner but if I'm there I should be given space. If my spotter said there was a car right there is no way I'd be turning in. It's a race after all.

I feel the move on the green car was a bit optimistic on your part. It's hard to tell but from the replay you barely had your nose in there. That said the green cars spotter absolutely should have been telling him there's a car on his inside and he should have left your room. Over all its a racing incident. It's fun that 9 times out of 10 the guys on the mic the loudest screaming are also to blame for the crash/crashes. James might have ha d protest when he was turned but than his swearing, waiting for the car and then trying to also take them out completely takes away. Any chance he had at a protest and hopefully he got a protest himself. It's just fun how oblivious people like that are to their own actions and how they played a part in the incident

Hey Dave, I know it would add loads of extra work, but you should try making a second channel. Or just shorter videos mixed in with your full length races. I have to imagine In todays day and age, the shorter the video, the better opportunity for views. Basically full races but chopped up to include action packed parts of the race. Maybe 8-12 minute videos. Also, maybe incorporate live streaming on set days. Maybe 2-3 times a week on set days and times, and the audience will build. All things to open up more revenue possibilities for ya. Fwiw, I love the full length races but I’m sure shorter , chopped up videos fit my (younger) generation better. Get some playlists going too. For full length races and the chopped up ones so folks can easily binge watch. And the sim racing tips, incorporate more maybe, and have a playlist for them as well. And I hate to tell ya this, but maybe some oval racing too. Hope all is well after the cyber attack and what not. Never stop David, never stop!

the 'punt'... sort of a racing incident but... the green car had turned in before you were alongside. if I'm not getting a 'car inside' message by the time I turn in, then I'm turning in. there's probably a debate whether 'turn in' or 'apex' is the appropriate point to recognise the relative positions of the two cars and make allowances, but by the apex you're both already long into the comitment zone on the limits of braking/steering; there's nothing you can do at that point to make allowances.

My take on the incident with the green car is that you're better safe than sorry. Whether you're alongside (and therefore not at fault) is a regulations question, but I don't think it would have taken you much slowing down to avoid contact entirely.

Dave I've discovered your channel shortly after I began sim racing after almost a year now. Your channel....no, the WORK that you've done has caused the following: a) I started my own channel and am heavily inspired by your videos and attitude in creating my own content b) be A BETTER sim racer! Honestly, without watching solely YOUR videos I'd be sending it way more often and get a DNF eventually! c) watching your content motivated me so often to not completely ditch it after having a series of bad races and keep being MOTIVATED d) I guess without your advice (as a sim racer! not a reviewer, as you often say) I would have bought a lot of BS gear that I would've regretted buying later on .... I could get to "z)" and beyond telling you why you are still my favorite content creator ever (and I've been binging YT in tons of different niches over the past 15 years!). There's absolutely NO REASON TO JUSTIFY that you are creating sponsored content! It's basically just a reward for you to have companies wanting to invest in the hard work you've invested into your channel over the years and you can be PROUD of it! I wish more companies would discover you and come up with sponsorships. Please don't consider getting a "normal" job again mate. I was literally shocked to hear it. And Green car, you could quote Mr. Brundle and say "it was 6 of one and half a dozen of the other" But yes, racing etiquette would suggest he gave you space and not tried to turn in on you when you were coming up alongside and obviously quicker. He would have been better served by letting you go and getting into the slipstream and learning a little to be dragged up to the next place in the race potentially. Or just lived another day to keep the position he was in instead of slipping down the order.

Dave the touch with the green car you reviewed straight after; Yes you hugged the kerb but IMO you lacked sufficient overlap to command/demand racing room. Unless your front axle is minimum level with his rear axle the corner is his really. Keep up the good work and hope to see you in RF2 CS soon.

So, driving up a straight with a similar overlap would mean he can just turn across me? What's the difference?

@DaveCamYT Well Dave attacking in a corner and attacking on a straight are dealt with very differently. Any overlap at all on a straight is enough to mean the defending driver can't move into you. But in a corner he has a right to go for the apex unless the attacking driver has achieved "significant overlap" and as such can command racing room. To allow the tiniest of sniffs up the inside to claim a corner such as just a front bumper aligned with a rear bumper is to invite many many contacts. Competitions vary on the wording. In FSR for example you are required to achieve it b4 the turn in point. Where I race IRL funnily enough in Mazda MX5 Supercup here in the UK its got to be done b4 the apex (which is quite a bit more lenient on the attacking driver).Such requirements prevent people just sticking a nose in an "claiming" the corner. Does iRacing not publish rules on this?

@@davidporeilly1 all I'm saying is, if I work hard enough to get an overlap I expect to be left room. So, on the exit of a turn where the guy on the outside has a very similar overlap on my left rear does that mean I can use all the track and run him off? I'm not saying I had the corner and it wasn't 'mine', but all I expect is racing room. It's exactly the same if someone pokes their nose up the inside a little with me, I give them room. You'll not find me turning in on someone anywhere on my channel.

@@davecamyt Mate I have given you my views on it. I don't see that as "an overlap", just a cheeky nose up the inside. Nor do many people put a nose outside on exit (as per yr example) but with significant overlap on outside too you are entitled to racing room (EG Webbers famous pass on Alonso at Eau Rouge. If you hit somebodys rear guard with your front guard at apex IRL its normally your fault. Can you tell me if iRacing publish a rule set?? Very curious to know the actual rule.

Great video, really enjoyed that. Totally agree. The green car would have known you were there of course, and you should be given space. So he took a huge risk turning in and not giving you space, and as a result he paid the price. If he hadnt been so aggressive there, you could both have easily made it through and continued. That’s on him I say. 👍🏻

I completely disagree, which is fine.. but I’ve driven at a semi professional level and pretty lucky to do so, but if you think that’s on the green car I’m being real with you mate you don’t know wheel. I’m mean that respectfully. If that went to stewards, which it would it would be a decision in half a second Dave’s a nice guy but if that happened to him imagine what he would say

Another great vid. This series is going off at the moment. It's so much fun and if you can keep your nose clean it's great for safety rating. I have a question. Do you have all those racelab overlays on your main screen when racing or just a subset and we are seeing the full gamut in the stream? I run similar on a 4th monitor attached to a laptop and via the web browser on that. I do find it a bit distracting having to look up to see information though so am thinking of bringing some onto my main monitor.

Well Dave there was some very questionable driving in this one. No not from you apart from the brain fart moment, but there was so much unnecessary carnage. I have no problem with sponsors unless it's for something totally unrelated to sim racing like Food or someting like that. I hope we won't be seeing "This video is sponsored by Costa Coffee". 😂 As far as I an concerned it adds value to your videos as the sponsors are the people you use yourself and let's others know where to go to get the same equipment. Keep doing what you do best. (Annoying Julie!) 👍
