It really is absurd how high big box PC games have risen in value over the past ten years. Really wasn't that long ago that collecting these was considered laughable by many collectors. Well WHO'S LAUGHING NOW. * does a Scrooge McDuck dive into pile of PC game boxes *

Lol. Agreed. I got back into collecting my old lost big box pc games about 2 years ago and had to do quite a bit of work to find them all at reasonable prices. Hardest to find was the Wing Commander 3 film tin version but I got it and my collection is complete! Wish I had never gotten rid of my originals when I moved out at 18 though lol.

AHH takes me back! There was something so special about receiving a game in a big box with beautiful artwork and all disks and manuals inside. Or visiting a game shop looking at all the different boxes deciding which one to buy. Maybe it's nostalgia talking but it's an experience you miss with a simple download. Of course at the end of the day it's all about the games though not the packaging.

This really takes me back to when I was kid. I'll have to see if I still have my sealed shareware and retail games that were passed down to me when I was younger. I know I have a copy of Doom Shareware sealed, Prince of Persia (standard box), Red Baron, and some other early DOS games a lot of which were from Sierra. I've even got a lot of the old shareware compilation CDs like a few editions of 101 Games that had Duke 1, Duke 2, Commander Keen, Crystal Caves, and Corridor 7. It would be cool for me to be able to help out a collector by adding things to their collection that they may not have yet. Seeing this video brought me back to when I was just two years old and my dad was teaching me DOS commands so I could play games on the PC after he went to work because he wouldn't be there to do everything for me. DOS taught me how to read before age three and now 23 years later I'm working as a senior cyber-security analyst. Geeked at birth and such good memories.

I've never paid more than 20$ for a PC game, and own more than 300 CIB. Just don't buy anything from ebay, it's just stupid to pay these prices. The biggest part of my collection come from thrift stores, garage sales or flea markets. But I also bought lots from website like Craigslist. My most recent acquisition come from one of these website and I bought 71 CIB PC games (mostly from the 90s) for 80$. In the lot, there was game like Blood, Duke Nukem Atomic Edition, Mario's Missing Deluxe and Mortal Kombat 1 (the version with a Gravis Gamepad included). You just have to know where to check and most importantly, be patient. Sometime, I can't find a single game for many months. And if someone is trying to sell you a game that you really really want for a stupid price, just tell him to go fuck himself. Because that's how the price rise for all of us. Now that everyone know that a complete moron paid 800$ for Gabriel Knight, it's will be even harder to find a copy at a reasonable price.

True story: My senior year in high school (this would've been late December 1994, right before Christmas), I went over to my buddy's house in Danville, IL (his sister was a classmate of mine, and I'd had his father as a teacher back in middle school) just to, y'know, hang out and stuff, and lo and behold, Jane Jensen, creator of _Gabriel Knight_ (and her husband) were visiting the family from California. Turns out that they were close friends of my former teacher and his family, and I ended up staying for most of the night, talking PC games with Jane, and cleaning her out at poker to boot. Incredible memory of mine.

I have it listed for $799.95 with the official guide and the box is basically a 9 out of 10, No dents, Rips, fading or much at all. And the box of Suspended brought back memories of being in a computer store and seeing those Infocom games on the shelf. I miss the box box PC packaging and how they tried to get your attention. It’s too bad when I worked for a game store that those had mostly faded out, uniform small box PC games had just come into fashion, and soon digital services had PC games removed from stores almost completely soon after. Clothmaps, coins, vynil covers, weird shaped boxes. Man, they were packed. As a kid, in the 90s, I was pirating games because my family wouldn't spend that much money on games, since we had friends and such to pirate games for PS1 and PC. Now you are lucky to even see a manual on modern games, let alone a coloured one. You get a flimsy paper about safety, heallth Very few games can come with some extra bonuses, like the Inside/Limbo compilation on PS4 has art cards and a poster, Slime Rancher has a colourful manual that acts as a lite encyclopedia of slimes and each expansion of Witcher 3 came with two decks of Gwent to play with friend along with tokens and rules. If you want cool shit, buy the collector's editions.

Box shapes would definitely catch my eye. I think my first true experiences until I got hooked with Counter-Strike and Team Fortress for HL1 was Outlaws, some of the Beavis and Butt-Head CD roms and I fondly remember Simpsons Virtual Springfield. Obviously StarCraft and Diablo 2 was a huge thing for me also. It all got crammed together by about 2000 when I hit high school. I have the Diablo 2 battlechest along with WOW. I have a small box copy of the HL1 pack that has Blueshift,Opposing Forces,Counter Strike and Team Fortress, so happy my brother found that. I didn't even play Maniac Mansion until after 2010 when my pal told me about the NES version. I now own a super nice version of it in the box, NES that is.

I would do some research with other collectors sites or other value pricing sites for collector items. Quest for Glory 4 was an excellent game. I was only able to pass the game only when I got the patch. I still have the boxes and floppies/CDs of my games in my closet.

Its funny, I was banned from the big box fb group because I said Fallout 1 wasn't actually rare just desirable, which is pretty much what MJ said here. Hmmmmmm. Considering I've come across and sold two complete trilogies this year.....

I seriously doubt that this is the reason you were banned from the group.

@@BigBoxPCGameCollectors Nope, it was. I was told to basically stop saying that and I said no, because its true. I was told by the admin that if I didn't stop the conversation and drop it (he inserted himself into the conversation) that I would be banned. Really disappointing. Its straight up not a rare game. Revolt, thats a rare game. 1 maybe 2 bbs a year on ebay. Any of the Worms games but Fallout 1, 2 or Tactics....nah, harder to find yes especially as people that find them now will either keep them or list for too much. The "hobby" is filling up with normies now moving on from NES etc. This fact is made clear when you see how much Half-Life is going for atm. The usual generic completed listings for anything with big box in it always has a Fallout box in the first 3 or 4 results. It literally the ONLY bad interaction I ever had in the group and it was too much for someone. If you would be willing I'd always love to be invited back into the group. DM me? Great group besides that interaction.

I bought ID Anthology in 1996 for $100 (CAD) and today it's worth around $1000 (CAD) on Ebay. It's still in excellent condition including the t-shirt (never worn), dogtags, poster, prepaid calling card, comic book, book of Id with 4 CD-ROM's, insert and pewter Cyberdemon. By the way, it's not for sale. Sorry guys.

I wish I took my dad's game collection before he gave them away over 20 years ago. He had a pretty decent PC collection and I imagine that some of the games he had would have been of value. These days I don't sell anything and it would have been nice to have my dad's collection incorporated into my collection.

The Kelley Blue Book has raised prices of used cars dramatically. Guess what? It's owned by Cox Automotive that's in the business of selling and auctioning used cars. They also own AutoTrader. Being suspicious of price guides is a good thing.

The prices they want for SSI, ORIGINS, EPYX, BRODERBUND, EA, games for the APPLE ][ are outrageous. Games that cost as little s $4.95 new up to $60 now going for $1000. I won't pay for them and no one else should either. I lost my huge game collection when my girlfriend's idiot housekeeper cleaned our apartment, went into the closet and decided that they were junk and threw them into the dumpster while I was out one day. I had 10,000 Apple ][ games with the original boxes and manuals. I could buy a mansion if I still had them today. I was sent new stuff every month because I made friends with developers, owners or executives of companies back in the 1970's or 1980's. I had every SSI game except 2; Broderbund, EA, etc. Still pissed about it. My girlfriend says she did not know they got tossed out.

I have a big box KLM version of Airline Tycoon that was given out to KLM employees and travel agencies. I have never seen another one in the time that i got it and what i find extra cool is that it came with an extra floppy disk with a Dutch patch on it. Nowhere have i found the game in that language, in that package. Probably all of them went in the bin. I acquired mine from my friend's mom who worked at a travel agency and they gave it to me. Otherwise they would've thrown it away! Unfortunate i did not scale model KLM airplane that also came with it...

A great video, thanks! Ultima I is really hard to find complete and in good condition. Usually it’s more than $200. Fun fact, the Japanese Ultima I has a cloth map (I have it too). Also I’m lucky to have that small Ultima II grey box sealed, I wonder how much that is nowadays...

If it's for the IBM, the smaller grey box U2 will likely fetch north of $500 depending on condition. A sealed Apple II original release large box U2 went for over $1200 recently. The rarest one is the small black box.
