We need to create petitions for UBI in every city and go to every university and get it on the ballot in cities first to get the attention! The Solution to the problems would be to tie UBI to GDP at 30% of the GDP and that would be the solution to any problems! Our government can do any budget they want for whatever they want and give money to corporations for trickle down which does not which since they do stock buybacks with that!

you will not be homeless, but you will still work cause you want a new macinstosh or motorcycle or a nice car.. it is just to keep you secure if you need to change jobs of if you get sick or if you want to have a kid or if you want to go back to school. i get a trust from my dad, it is about 1,200 per month. i still work cause i want to have a house and car and nice clothes and sushi and to travel. but i don;t feel paranoid about failure or change.

I think basic income is the way forward and when it comes it will be the biggest social revolution since the founding of the wefare state in 1945 in the UK.Another problem that needs to be tackled is a fair rent system or mortgage for first time buyers it used to be that rents could never be more than 25% of basic wages i am impressed by the way it has been successful in the third world countrys to get back to rents it is ridiculous that a basic flat can cost over £300 or so in London much more than people can possibly earn

Your comment would be seen as ridiculous and laughable by opponents of ubi. Sorry about your situation but it seems that your art is not valuable. Why support the villager who spends his days making worthless things?

keepeetron if we make human expression subject to de-emphasis because lack of commercial value, it isn't good for humans.
@keepeetron7 жыл бұрын
If this guy thinks his art is valuable in ways that are not indicated by commercial value, i would love to see how. I think it's far more likely he is one of countless artists with over-inflated opinions of their own work. Dont get me wrong though, I agree with UBI on the basis that human labor is becoming worthless, but mentioning that you're an artist seems to me irrelevant, if the implication is that they deserve ubi because of their art, i reject that.
@JL-iu4zc7 жыл бұрын
Fair enough. Well, no comment on his artistry, but I do think that many expressions have been over commodified to the extent that leaves fundamental human sentiment overlooked. And yeah, I agree with the UBI as well. The sooner we hit an automated economy, the better. The UBI will speed that along while providing flexibility and safety to the displaced, not to mention that governments and institutions will be poorly equipped to deal with displacement in a timely fashion.

You won't get off your arse to work though. I know another artist who lives with his mom, drinks all day and paints all night. Sure it makes sense to you a lazy person.

49:59 "why give the UBI to people who don't need it?" It's a nominal, guaranteed tax-return for them, and a means of survival for those in actual need. simplest answer to that question possible. This can improve trust in the viability of UBI because essentially 99% of opposition to UBI comes from people complaining about enabling other people's laziness, fear of inflation and tax-increases. 1:00:03 great argument! UBI can fix so many issues :)
@12presspart6 жыл бұрын
IF people were earning a very high wage or salary then taxation would cancel out the basic income but has Guy Standing says you could lose your high wage or become sick anything could happen then basic income would kick in sustaining you we have something simlar now with child allowances and old age pensions

He is like a Thomas Paine for the cause. A revolutionary where you intuit that the energy and momentum is there which is the next thing to define the zeitgeist. The same feeling for Bernie Sanders. Even though this is just a singular issue, but its profundity eclipses so much because of its emancipatory potential. It would not only liberate, but it would allow 99% of the population or more to simultaneously become a Newton or Einstein if they wanted.

When people have their basic security, they can say NO to their tyrannical boss, or corporate manager and walk out, quit the job. When they have their basic security taken care of they can choose to work less, have more free time, become more engaged in politics. If 100% of people voted in every election, the right wing party's would never win. That is why they work so hard to stop people voting.

I don't know how to word all of this but if you argue for basic income some people won't always understand it. They're thinking of it as something else. Another way to present it is a redistribution of the discretionary spending for personal use where the amount is the amount to cover basic needs. You have charts that shows what the governments spends money on (search Discretionary Spending). That money is gathered from all of our collective efforts. We all pay into that through income tax, sales tax, consumption tax, import tax, etc. All of us buy things, everyone. But even those that don't work are paying into it. Stay at home parents are unpaid. As Dave Chappelle says, stay home to raise your kids so they don't rob someone someday. That is unpaid work. Going to public school is unpaid work. You are doing home work. It says work right in the name. It takes a lot of work to go to school, get an education and you are not paid for that but doing it benefits society. Following the societal customs is an unpaid full time job but we do it instead of tribal warfare. People have depression, anxiety, stress from doing things that are expected of them in this society. That is effort that benefits society but costs a lot to the individual. The point is government agencies that we the people, our ancestors, set up a long time ago, are deciding how to spend the collective pool of income without regard to personal needs. So look at a chart of spending and you see Agriculture, Transportation, Science, Education, Military, Energy, Government, Health, Labor and so on. What it sounds like is that we need another category for the Agency of the People. That would contain a percentage of that spending that would be paid directly to the people that could be used for personal expenses. That could be used to prevent homelessness. And to ensure it prevents homeless the percentage would be enough to pay for basic needs. While this might have been difficult to near impossible in the past it's not impossible now because of the advances in technology and education.

The differing levels of individual competency are at the foundation of inequality and the income gap. Those most competent people are able to make the most sense out of life and are able to extract the greatest value. The least competent people have a limited view of life and are not able to extract maximum value from it. Incompetent people have no claim to the fruits of the efforts of the more competent.

A simple single policy chance would over time totally eradicate poverty. Make it a national policy that if a person does not first demonstrate the means to support themselves, then they should not be allowed to procreate additional obligations who will then end up being the responsibility of taxpayers.

Could basic income be approached as an allowance on basic needs such as grocery, healthcare, housing, utilities, and non-luxury items? Picture an amped up version of food stamps that only goes to certain things. Would this allow us to shift focus away from money and toward management of specific resources to meet needs?Additionally, how much of basic needs within a community could be creatively addressed through crowdfunding and volunteer efforts? What key technologies and innovations put power in the hands of volunteer producers?Please share your thoughts
