My youngest son turned 1 years old today . His name is Everett thanks to this beautiful song . Will make a great uncle one day for his older brothers. Thank you Sturgil for taking my memories back somewhere I thought was lost .

I'm from Georgia, the only connection i have to KY and the particulars of this song is my Great-grandfather who died in a KY coal mine in 1923. The less particular parts, however, apply to me and just about anybody else who grew up in the rural south, however. I grew up on the lake with my dad, swimming and fishing but he died when I was 10. My grandmothers raised me because my mom worked and I miss them every damned day I'm still breathing and I am still in reverance of them years after they died. My best times were playing in the woods and along the lake and hunting and fishing my youth away. The rest of it has been a lot of pain and strife and all the sorrows that this world brings. Thanks to Sturgill for putting my jumbled thoughts into words

I love this album and this was such a cool way to end it. Feels like he's breaking the fourth wall when the lines don't rhyme, speaking directly to us.

I'd give anything to go back Days I was young All the way back to Pan Bowl I sit down on the lakebed Stare at the sun Then I'd walk out in the water Let it cleanse my soul Spend my days up on Quicksand There I would play Wild as a rattlesnake Right from the start I'd push August in Swing all day Well she was the first girl that ever broke my heart Miss the days when this old life Free from all the pain and strife And all the sorrow it has brung I'd give anything to go All the way back to Pan Bowl All the way back to days when I was young Spend my summers hearing stories 'Bout the one that got away On a dock down at Watt's Bar Every 4th of July Uncle Everett was the coolest Never had a word to say When he died was the only time I ever seen papa cry Every Sunday we'd go visit My great-grandma Mary Ann Lord I cry just thinking About how good she was to me My great-grandad Eli Was a coal-mining man Not a tooth in his head But his eyes held the sea Miss the days when this old life Free from all this pain and strife And all the sorrow it has brung I'd give anything to go All the way back to Pan Bowl All the way back to days when I was young I'd climb up on high-tops Stare as far as I could see At the one and only home My heart has ever known

1st time I heard this song I was tripping. I didn't know who was singing but I knew he was breaking my heart for old Kentucky. I don't know if I'll ever get back there but it was an absolute magical place to spend my childhood. Wonderful song. Stirs up about 1000 memories.
This song means a lot where your from the same area, and have had the same experiences. the W.G
