One of our most memorable fishing trips after trophy sized Tigerfish on the upper Zambezi river. Staying at the fantastic Matoya Fishing Lodge. We fished low water in October which is big tiger time !. Watch the film to see some monster tigers over 16lbs. Great people and a stunning place to fish.

Happy to see the practice of catch and release gents. Thanks for that. Not sure what part of the Zambezi you fished, but that river scares the hell out of me.Bull sharks (Zambezi sharks)...nuff said.

As a kid I did a lot of tiger, bream and vundu fishing in the Zambezi as well as at Kariba. Haven’t been back there for many years, wonder what it’s like now. Those days in the 60’s was heaven on earth.

I've got a bit of a fish story involving the Zambezi. I am lucky enough to have parents well-off enough to take me on an African safari vacation. One day, I got a chance to go concierge fishing - the guide does everything except reel the fish in (which, of course, is the fun part of fishing). We went out onto the Zambezi one afternoon and I started to fish with my dad . About a half-hour in, I get a bite. With some coaching, I reel in a ~6 pound tigerfish. But we let it go, as we had actually had one for dinner the night before. I remember it being very mild, kind of like trout or tilapia as far as taste. Another hour passes, when suddenly the rod - which is a pretty cheap-looking thing - bends almost 180 degrees as a whopper is hooked onto my line. A few minutes of fighting and reeling in later, I pull up a ~12 pound catfish, possibly a vundu - which can get up to ten times heavier than that, as you probably know as a fisherman who enjoys reeling in exotic fish. It was late in the day, but we decided that it would make for good eating. Sadly, I didn't get a chance to taste it as it was our last night at that lodge. But I swear that if the fish had been much bigger, it would have snapped the rod in half just from its sheer strength and bulk. But here's the kicker - I learned afterward that while I was fighting one river monster, the guide had been trying to get us away from another, far larger one: We had inadvertently gotten too close to a male hippopotamus, and said hippo had been looking to make us pay for our ignorance. If not for the guide seeing it, we could have met a grisly fate at the jaws of a true king of the Zambezi river...

@@StuWalkerFishingAdventures most people are right handed so on baitcasters the handle is on the right, I went on a fishing trip and all the reels had the handles on the left side it ruined the trip because it was so uncomfortable to use, now spinning reels for some reason feel more comfortable with the the handle on the left
