STV News - Ayr Station closure

The rail line was closed to all stations south of Ayr - after fears over the poor condition of the town's once iconic Station Hotel.

I would say the Malaysian owner bought it for £750k and submitted plans to develop into accommodation, flats etc plus commercial on the ground floor. I have been told SAC planning rejected his plans multiple times until he withdrew effort. He is not entirely to blame. SAC shojld have done more to work with him. So restoration in a few years has gone from £3mm to £10mm. If it's pulled down what preservation of our towns historic buildings. If planning was rejected because plasticwindows were going in that would be a disgrace. I would rather have the building restored with up windows than having it demolished.

I used to work there when the Malaysian business owner had it and even then we reported things like water running down the walls and he said it would be too expensive to fix. Even the laundry service he used stopped working with him because he refused to pay. My pay was £100 short one month and when I said to him about it he made out like I was lying. Didn't give a crap about the building. The question is how did the council let him get away with it so long, they knew it was falling into disrepair and Rayhan was doing nothing about it. They were shady businessmen. The things that went on there would shock you!!!

From what I understand there has been several small fires started buy Neds over recent years but nothing big enough to bring the entire Hotel down to the ground ( pitty).

@@alanfox691 The inside of the hotel is soaking wet due to burst water pipes which the council have not turned off, also before it was covered the rain would get in too

It’s a long term investment for the owner. If he waits till it requires demolition, it will be prime property.
