Yes but I am not comfortable in them anymore. Too low cut, or too tight - they make them so young looking now: they're cut and styled like their for a 7 years old to wear.

I admire you !! I am 80 years old from South Carolina . should a 80 yr. old wear dresses. I want so much to look as pretty as God made me but I have NO idea where to start. I love dresses. I am always on the lookout for a great dress although not so much now as I am retired. I have some great dress shopping stories that bring back some fun memories! My current favourite dress is a black and white small print stretchy dress that I bought in Italy. It has a wrap v top and fitted skirt. It is so glam! It has long sleeves. Wow factor for sure. I used to snap up Michael Kors dresses for work. They were stylish and washed like rags! Recently lent one to my friend who was going on a trip to Europe and she wore it a number of times. It looked so great on her! It wasn’t something she would have normally chosen, but I made her try it on and it was such a great look. I also have a leopard print empire waist baby doll style MK that has got a lot of wear, with black leggings and booties! Like I said…love a dress. Thanks for the hints!

This is a great video packed with dress styling tips. Thank you for sharing your expertise and practical advice Sheila. A petite hourglass, I find a sheath dress works best, have 4 in summer weight fabrics, each a great colourway for my skintone, however feel slightly guilty seeing them unworn. My retirement lifestyle is active, community focused and engaged, so outfits tend to have a sporty vibe, accent on colour and incorporate a statement jacket or blazer. It takes real effort to wear a dress, on or near the knee being my best length (am swamped by longer lengths) so there's the whole drama around exfoliation, self tanner, footwear etc. It almost feels like too much effort, when 3-4 garments (jeans, hoodie, statement jacket, sneakers) can be layered up in a flash. And yes, it's mid winter here so loving the layers. May take another look at those dresses in spring.

A sheath dress is great for the hourglass shape - it can really show off your curves. You're right, if you have a leisure lifestyle you probably don't have the need for a dress ( unless you're like me and love dresses - I fit them in. 🙂) I wouldn't worry about not wearing them - they're a classic so you can have them awhile.

You looked gorgeous in that long blue dress! Thank you for this helpful information! There are so many more vertical lines to think about than I would have imagined. I've always loved the versatility of separates (which must be my practical Capricorn nature!), but can't resist maxi dresses since they do a great job of covering my calves and ankles which aren't my best features. In fact, I once heard a woman refer to her wide calf and ankle as a cankle.

Thank you! I love the blue dress too, it looks especially nice at night in lights, near a pool. I'm happy the video was helpful. The more you know the easier it is to dress well.

Hi Sheila, I wear dresses mainly in the summer as they are cool and no fuss. My shoulders are one inch smaller then my hips, i am busty with an undefined waist short legs and a flat bum, not sure what category I fit in, guessing oval. Love the video and especially the blue dress you wore.

Yes, of course wear dresses- there’s no age limit. Start with a dress in a colour you love, a material that’s comfortable and a style that makes you smile.

Sheila, thank you so much for this video. I always thought because I'm a Size 6 or thereabouts ANd I have a pooch that I was a box shape. I took my measures again: hips were 45 and a bit more and waist was 36 or thereabouts. No wonder wrap dresses stil look good on me! Very helpful!!! Don't you think that wrap dresses are flattering for some many figures and sizes?

I'm happy you learned something new. Yes, wrap dresses look good on many women.

I thought I was an oval. But I may be an inverted triangle. I’m going to measure myself and find out. I feel I look better in v neck t shirts. So that’s what I have kept in my closet. I have a lot of skirts with t shirts also. And I tend to buy something with a v or square neck and a printed skirt. Is that what I should be doing? I do own dresses, but I’m not sure of all the styles right now. And my body keeps changing with the medication I have to take. I’m already about ready to stop taking it so I won’t eat as much. It just stinks to get old and have health problems that mess you up.
@StylebySheila2 жыл бұрын
It's common to mistake an inverted triangle shape for an oval. If you have slim legs and a flat bottom there's a good chance you're an inverted triangle.

@@StylebySheila I have a problem with my knees. They are wider than my thighs, so pants just look better and make my legs look straighter. I have trouble walking, so a longer dress seems to get in the way. I've also shrunk 4 inches and don't know what I should do.
