there's more nutrition education nowadays than in the past. More people have a skin care program and they start sunscreen earlier. More melanin helps A LOT, but genetics play a part.

Epigenetics are more important than genetics - controlling gene expression with diet and lifestyle because you can turn them on and off.

Well they have money and we can’t discount what not having those worries does in terms of ageing. They can also hire folks to do things like clean their homes and any other labor that takes it outta you. For Gabrielle Union, she used to get facials on her Instagram and show us what she was up to. She also reports having had oily skin in her youth, which may feel annoying when we’re young but slows down signs of ageing. Regina King and Angela Bassett have also been big on sunscreen their whole lives, and taking care of your skin when you’re young will translate into great skin in your future. So I don’t think it’s any one thing so much as it is a whole lifetime of habits (and genetics, of course)

All three women look fantastic and are aging wonderfully. I lost weight in my 30s and lost volume in my face that I wish I could get back-- without gaining weight, of course. Thank you for the breakdown.
@kuroe-chan51909 ай бұрын
Yeah same. I lost a little and all the plum was in my face is gone. Many say it looks good but I feel the fat loss aged me bit more than I like but I’d take overall health though
@MDWhite-qg6yb5 ай бұрын
I am wondering is this more likely to happen if you lose a significant amount of weight or modest weight loss (10-15 lbs)? Also if the rate at which the weight is coming off a factor? For example, losing 30lbs over a year in comparison to losing 30lbs in 6 months. I read somewhere that losing weight gradually gives the body time catch up and will less likely have loose skin.

I think people put too much emphasis on genetics because many of us look better than our parents looked in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. It helps that other than diet, exercise, and good skincare that I don't have a spouse, job, or children stressing me out. I am 47. I also don't like heavy over contoured makeup, I like a softer look. I have always liked thicker, fuller brows that are well groomed. There are plenty of melanated people that look haggard and older than their age. I hate when people say "Black don't crack" because it actually shatters with many of us. I noticed with many actresses like Nia Long, Queen Latifah, etc that they do less evasive procedures at the dermatologist. Radio frequency with microneedling is pretty popular with Black actresses. This was a great video! Please do part 2! 😊

Hi Doc. In your part two segment, Please...Pleazzz include Rachel True from the tv show Half and Half. Like I herd Chris Tucker say on a Michael Jackson CD, ....."She's off the Hook!". I saw a photo of her in her 50's, and it's as if time stopped ,sat down and parked indefinitely. Thanks for the insight on better ways to take care of ourselves.

“…dull…sickly….just looking wrrroooong” 💀 again, I cannot with you ma’am 😭 love the video, after 40, I find myself more aware of how I look because I actually have to put effort into it. When I was in my 20s and up until mid 30s, I glowed regardless of what I did. Gotta step my game up!

Yes, nothing wrong with a little help to keep you looking your best (and yes, it's expected when you're a celeb). You can tell the ones who've probably had something done but it looks nice as opposed to the ones who went the too far route and don't look anything like what they originally looked like.

I was a little underweight my entire life. I come from a long line of skinny people, my mom was skinny, my dad, grandparents, etc. I got gestational diabetes during my first pregnancy which resulted in me putting on about 50 lbs. I was able to lose some of the weight post pregnancy but the added weight made me look younger than ever before. I rarely wear makeup and I’m so happy with my face. All of my fine lines filled out! I guess it depends on what your starting point is but I think putting on a little bit of weight helps to look younger. I hope the weight never leaves my face.

Gabrielle Union didn't carry and birth a baby and THAT MATTERS. Carrying babies will change you. It will change your skin, your body, your hair....all of it. I will say, my face did get fuller as I got older. I don't like it but I have had men, ironically enough, complement the fullness in my face. I didn't know that having full cheeks was "a thing". I was slim all through my twenties and early thirties and I prefer the slimmer face. I miss having definition in my jaw and chin; it was feminine and just made me look different.

Yes part 2 please! Now I'm not a negative Nancy, but Angela ignores her neck and that is telling her age and/or if she's had something done. Also, when I got tear trough filler my derm warned me about my eyes closing more if I was over filled. They close slightly tighter since the procedure.
