I’ve been waiting my whole adult life 4 this video. I’ve been in the process of growing my hair out for 30 yrs b/c pple keep giving me the same haircut over & over & over again. They mess up the weight line royally & they have no ability to comprehend what I’m asking 4. I even use the term “weight line” & they still can’t do it. Thank u thank u THANK YOU!!!!!! If this was a still photo I’d have it tattooed on my body!!

You are echoing my life story. I stopped going, well can’t remember. I say 20 years but I think it was probably more like 35-40 years. I just cut the ends myself and wear it in a ponytail, bun, etc, It’s not long despite all that time, only shoulder length. Another reason I don’t want them chopping off a foot of hair off the top of head.
@CarlaWilkins-qz7bf3 ай бұрын
If you had a salon and were in business anywhere within 500 miles of me, I would so be there. I stopped going to salons 20 years or more ago because I came out bald every time DESPITE giving them explicit directions on what I did not want. And what did they do--exactly what I said I didn’t want. My hair grows so slowly it takes me 7 years plus to recover from their mess.

Summer, this is absolutely the best tutorial I have ever seen for a longer length, layered cut for fine, thin hair! It is absolutely beautiful how you put in that many layers, brought out that much volume and movement, and yet left so much thickness in that mannequin's fine thin hair! Perfect choice of mannequin too, btw! As a fine thin haired person myself, point cutting scares the heck out of me... I've had it badly overdone on my hair before... but you smartly kept it to a minimum and it didn't hurt the final outcome at all. Dang it, I only wish I could have seen it last week, _before_ I got my hair cut!!! 😭 Not that I got a bad cut, but it was about as long as the "before" was here, and I went so much shorter to achieve volume than you clearly show I needed to. Well, at least the hot and humid days of summer are coming if my hair has to be on the short side for now. I am definitely saving this video for the future, though! You are so talented! This should be required learning for hair stylists because SO many don't know how to cut fine thin hair!

This will help me not butcher it up until I find someone 😝

Hi Summer! I love watching your videos on thin hair and I wish I could find a stylist like you, in my area who really understands color and how to cut and style fine, thin hair. I moved to a new state and tried out a local salon. The stylist was nice but not experienced. She changed my base color to an ashy brown and then added highlights which made my hair take on a weird orange hue at the crown. I didn’t want to hurt her feelings and since I knew it would fade, I didn’t say anything. I went back in 7 weeks and I was honest about my thoughts. She admitted the color didn’t look good and she asked another stylist how to fix it. I ask her to cut a few face angles in front of my hair and she told me she didn’t know how to do that. Another stylist came over and admitted she wasn’t a “pro” at cutting, but then she cut a random chunk out of the front. I did not go back! When I called another salon and explained what had happened, the receptionist put me on hold and said she has a master stylist, but the next appt would be over two months out. Needless to say, I haven’t had my hair cut or colored in a good while!!😭 Thanks for the great videos and for “listening!” Lol Susan

Hi Summer! I’m definitely using this video for future reference. Although most of my hair is normally on the thicker side, the recession area is thinner. Your precision cutting and adding just the right amount of light surface layers & face framing is what makes you stand out above and beyond most stylists I’ve encountered. Wish they would take lessons from you! 👏

I did hair many moons ago, and this is the best tutorial I’ve ever seen. Cutting the outer perimeter first and setting up a guide around the crown area is something that I’ve never seen on recent videos. That’s how we learned years ago Overdirecting hair to help compensate for the thinner areas is easier when you establish this guides. You do great work!

Hey Summer, thank you, thank you, thank you for your videos!!! I've always dreaded going to the salon because I always come out with a haircut I have to fix, but since finding your videos I've cut my own hair for years now. I wonder if you could help with my particular hair type... I have very long hair, almost down to my waistline, and up by my neck I would say the diameter is average to slightly thin, but by the time you get to the ends it's pretty sparse. I would love to put some layers in it to give it some movement and body, but because it's so much thinner as you go down, I can't figure out how to do that without losing what little weight/ thickness at the baseline that i have. (If you have an email i could send you a pic to show what I'm struggling with.) I haven't used any heat on my hair for over 3 years, so I know I'm not breaking it off at the ends from heat damage, but if you have any tips on how to help care for it and help get the ends thicker, that would be appreciated too! (I'm wondering if the reason is so much thinner at the ends is just that the new growth after the previous damage hasn't reached it's full length yet) Any tips would be greatly appreciated

I have very thick hair that grows fast. But now that Im entering my early 60's, my hair is doing something strange. Usually, my hair has always been easy to keep. I say usually. But I do have emotional hair. When I get too stressed out, then my hair can just knot up into insane knots/tangles that I cant get out. It doesnt matter what I try or do. That happened once in my early 30's. And now its happening again. Ive used all kinds of products from the Beauty Supply. Nothing works. I dont know if my hair strands are becoming fine hair strands .... idk. But Im ready for a short hair style. Which is why I was watching your video. Im thinking I want some kind of bob cut, with long whispy's behind the ears, layers on the crown for fluff or volume. And of course longer whispy type hair on the sides of my face. I dont like my turkey neck. Thank you for putting up this video demonstration. It was interesting and helpful. ❤ ❤❤

What if someone wants a style like a bixie that’s shorter in front? Or if the person has curly hair that just has no shape if the bottom is really blunt? Mine is curly and looks better with a rounded shape at the bottom. I like the bottom to be blunt but rounded. It’s hard to explain that to stylists. I like the ends to be blunt, but the overall shape can’t just be blunt at the bottom . The manes by Mel pigtail cut gives a good shape. I think I like it when the outer shape of the cut follows the shape of the face/head.
