I was scared that this was going to be really judgy, like "don't wear too many bright colors" or "sweatpants are bad", but this was actually really helpful and practical advice that didn't demonize the clothes themselves, just the way they fit.

I was half scared to click and watch this video because I'm so used to seeing fashion/styling advice like 'if you're x body type, don't wear this' and 'if you have dark skin don't wear bright colors', but I was pleasantly surprised to see a legitimately interesting, helpful, and non-rude video on the matter. Subscribing definitely wasn't a mistake.

in my opinion bright colors look so amazing on darker skin, I've never heard of that 'rule' but it sounds like it was made to stop darker skinned folks from being fabulous
@xoltacueponi8 жыл бұрын
***** It's a rule that's been told to me by fashion forums and my own family. Typical crap like 'morenas can't wear bright red, they'll look bad'. It's been a long journey of self esteem for me and for every one with dark skin, I'm sure. It's good to see fashion icons like her weld her 'power' with responsibility and consideration: she influences so many people, and it's good that she use her platform to spread good things to her audience.
@JoeyWheelerKaiba8 жыл бұрын
waaaaaht. I always thought bright colors looked great on darker skinned people. Especially yellow and neon colors. Even red. Honestly, yellow washes a lot of white folks out. It is a color most blond people in particular struggle to pull off.
@auroraluccia8 жыл бұрын
"if you have dark skin don't wear bright colors" WHAAAAT who said that? in fact I personally think that bright colors (pink and orange the best in my opinion) look way better on people with dark skin, they just make the color pop and it looks soooo beautiful

If you're looking for high-waisted jeans or bottoms, topshop's your best bet
@lestranged8 жыл бұрын
Maybe look for vintage? Back in the 80's, what we call high waisted now was just NORMAL waisted- it sat at your natural waist- the narrowest part of your waist. What they called high waisted in the 80's went ABOVE the natural waist- like part way up your rib cage! Sounds crazy but it looked good with tops tucked in. Or you could wear with a crop top and no belly was showing unless you lifted your arms.
@Berlinie9 жыл бұрын
My number one tip is to avoid mini sleeves on dresses and shirts. Any sleeve whose length is inbetween a regular fitted t-shirt and a tank top strap will make your upper arms appear bigger than they are because the awkward length gives the impression of wearing a top that is too small. It's also a good idea to find out whether you have a long,short or regular torso, as it makes it a lot easier to avoid purchasing ill-fitting dresses and pants.

I just went through a closet organization spree and most of the items that ended up in the donation pile were the "awkward mid-rise skirts" that you were talking about. I always wondered why I never wore them even though they looked cute on the hanger -- because it didn't look flattering. Thank you for your helpful observations!
@eunnikins8 жыл бұрын
I appreciate how well thought out and astute these tips are! Totally agree about the high waisted thing, so annoying. I will say that some of these differ depending on body shape- for example, someone with thicker calves might end the skirt at mid knee so as not to cut off that inward slope. Or, someone might find a mid-high rise bottom flattering paired with a crop top to highlight the in-and-out curve of the waist. You totally acknowledged this at the beginning though which I love; I'm so tired of people doing these types of videos and not acknowledging that they can be broken if you can pull it off, or are going for a certain look. Your videos always seem like you put a lot of thought into them. It's so refreshing and makes for very interesting content!! Love the style and range as well. As a lover of 80s teen movies, I would love to see an 80s lookbook from you if you haven't already and I somehow missed it. Hope you're well! Sorry for this novel of a comment, lol.

If you're low on 80s movie screenshots, I have a ton that I'm constantly compulsively taking whenever I watch them lol. I can also give movie suggestions but I'm less of a connoisseur and more of an enthusiast, so you probably have seen more of them than me.

Great video. I would love to see more tips for wearing flat shoes with big feet, as I also have this problem. Particularly ballet flats make my legs and feet look much wider. Thanks! Keep up the good work!
@cj2221006 жыл бұрын
I hear ya on the flat shoes; I wear a US size 10 shoe (which I believe is equivalent to your size 40, or close to it), & though I'm tall, I have shorter legs & a long torso. So ballet flats with certain things, like certain lengths of skirts for example, aren't so flattering on me, at least imo. I'm not sure how it is where you live, but an annoying thing about wearing a larger shoe size is that stores seem to think they're much less common than they are, & don't order that many in. So usually the 10's go first & forget waiting on a pair to go on sale, bc you'll never get them.

Honestly, the shoulder thing applies to everybody. I don't have broad shoulders but I noticed if the seam begins before the shoulder ends, the shoulders 'appear' broader. Ditto on mid-rise jeans. I have wide hips so anything that isn't high-waisted looks really unflattering on me.

What advice would you give to girls with dip hips (otherwise known as a violin hip)..because like my hips aren't fully rounded and when I wear high waisted jeans and skirts, it tends to like very awkward ...
@themilkclub8 жыл бұрын
I've never heard of this term before you mentioned it! I'm pretty sure I'm the same, but I'm just good at finding clothing items that fit my body in a way that I like. when it comes to jeans, the american apparel "High-Waist Jean" is super flattering. they're a nice heavyweight denim, so they smooth you out nicely. they also aren't skin tight on me. for high waisted skirts, similar deal - look for slightly heavier fabrics. it's the really thin stretchy fabrics (including thin denim) that tend to rest on every curve and bump of the body. look for skirts that are either very fitted around the hips that shape your body, or ones that have a stiffer a-line shape that rest over the hips (think corduroy, heavier denims, even the AA tennis skirt is quite good). a fit-and-flare type of skirt would also work as the waves/ruffles it forms can rest nicely over the hips (once again, high quality thicker fabrics are ideal). with all this said, I think all hip types look great and I wouldn't worry about them, but nonetheless I hope these tips help you out. perhaps I will include all of these tips in a future styling video xxx
