I don't feel Bunny would be a stylish dresser at all, but a huge fan of brand names. The type of guy that would wear a Ralph Lauren Polo shirt, but only the one with the biggest possible Polo patch. And a GIANT Gucci belt buckle. That type of tacky brand name focused style. Henry seems an absolute Spartan minimalist, so I don't feel he would have a lot of colour, and definitely no patterns. Or really care to much about clothes beyond their social role and function. I also think his appreciation for Gucci is the concept rather than the actual clothes and style. Also he's absolutely enormous, bigger than Bunny who is described as 6'3" tall ex-football jock, so he might be limited to bespoke clothing. Richard, until Francis gifts him some suits, is probably a mess of tolerable vintage pieces, and super cheap stuff that might look the part at 20 feet away, but obvious to anyone who actually cares up close, supported by Bunny's later aggressive teasing.

love your video but i disagree slightly on some points 1) henry said he likes gucci because it's over the top and ugly, and i feel like he admires the dedication to kitsch but he doesn't give the impression of a person who would wear it. i imagine him wearing suits all the time, mostly black but sometimes black with thin grey stripes, always in a three-piece except for when he's having a migraine, when he loses a jacket and a vest and maybe rolls up the sleeves of his shirt and unbuttons the collar, tie loosely hanging around his neck. he puts on an air of a stoic who doesn't care much about fancy looks (imo) but he's always put together and all his suits look basic but are crazy expensive 2) I don't think camilla actually wears a lot of dresses. it is mentioned that a lot of her clothes are actually charles', and i think her femininity is more of a description of attitude than the looks. i think sometimes she might wear a midi skirt, combined with charles' shirt, but mostly a lot of wide-legged pants, turtlenecks and oversized shirts. and i feel like she would prefer classic oxford shoes 3) richard at the beginning of the book is more of a normie, i think. i feel like when he only arrives on campus he would wear something more basic, like a checkered shirt and baggy pants, and only when he becomes obsessed with the classicists he starts emulating them and wearing more classical style, and also i think it would be a nice touch to make him the only one of the group to not wear a vest ever, as to subtly signal visually that he's still an outsider. i certainly see him as a person who, out of all classicists, is most likely to only wear shirt and trousers with no jacket on casual meetings sorry if I don't make much sence, english is my 2nd language and i only read the book in translation to my native one

great analysis! actually, henry’s conservative clothing style and his love for gucci aren’t mutually exclusive - back then gucci was far from being the wacky and campy brand it is today. the book is set even before tom ford became creative director and made it attractive to young people. before that (and even now still), a luxurious and well-tailored suit was a staple at gucci.

I just finished the book and I also miss it a lot while trying to read other things! My favorite was Francis for sure. I would recommend “ if we were villains” is not the same at all, the writing stile is not as good but the vibes are similar.

I love this, it was so thoughtfully and tastefully made!!! One other random detail I remember from the book is that Francis had a nice silk scarf with clocks on it, and I think some kid (one of Bunny’s relatives) wrapped it around a chicken drumstick😭 but yeah I think he likes fun scarves- I know he bought a fun scarf for Richard at one point too (when he went away for the weekend shortly after the funeral, and he also bought Henry the most boring book he could find at the store haha). That may be intentional. Because they're all incredibly flawed and it's a Greek tragedy really. Bunny (with all his annoyances and flaws) was still the only thread to humanity in the group. He wasn't as isolated as the rest and was more a normie. And I'm a firm believer that if the narrator of the story is often drunk or high, then, the story isn't always true. So it's upto us to read between the lines and draw our own conclusions.
