Dennis DeYoung IS Styx and Styx IS Dennis DeYoung. He was the true showman of the group.
@Thunderhawk-fr6qv6 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. I don't think anyone can ever really replace DeYoung. It's like once he was forced out and Gowan came, that was the end of them. Shaw and DeYoung together are what really forged Styx as a great band. I don't think the band can be what they are without either of them.

Talented band. Dennis DeYoung...among the best rock voices of a generation along with Steve Perry of Journey.

I was born in 1961 & was lucky enough to grow up when great music like this was everywhere. We didn't have cd's, dvd's, laptops, pc's, ipods or iphones, but for about $10 -12 a ticket you could see Styx or Aerosmith, or Bad Company, or ZZ Top, or many others live! wish I could go back sometimes, xoxoxo

Not even the same Styx without Dennis on lead vocals. Lawrence Gowen cant come close to hitting the notes.

Paul cuming Dear stuck in the past, Gowan is a great singer doing a great job hitting all those notes well. And nothing is ever 'the same' after it changes...

uncledui - I'm a '65 baby... and you're right about the music. Not so much because it was "ours," but because it was real. Real bands playing real instruments and writing real songs. The best of times indeed. If you care... bassist Chuck Panozzo's book "The Grand Illusion: Love, Lies and My Life With Styx" is a very good read. Odd that he and his late brother, drummer John, started Styx and they're rarely shown in videos. They're not the front men, I get that. But still...

The intro to "the best of times", the 5th track on the CD, is a theme used three times on the Paradise Theatre. It is also used in A.D 1928, and A.D. 1958. 1928 is at the start of the record and is the song that leads into "Rocking the Paradise." 1958 is the song that fades in from "half Penny-Two Penny" at the end of the record.The Piano intro on this video is State St. Sadie, which is actually the last song on the record. YOu are referring to 1958, and I doubt that version appears in video.

Does anyone know if the last "Best of Times" song on the album Paradise Theater album is shared on youtube? It's the song very last on the album with the lyrics "Tonight's the night we'll make history as sure as dogs can fly"? This song playing now is the first song on the album.
@bigtimesully3 жыл бұрын
You’re slightly wrong on both. The introduction song is called “AD 1928” and it has the lyrics you stated here. “The Best of times” is like the 4th song on the album and is the main tune. “AD 1958 is at the end of the album and has the lyrics “and so my friends, we’ll say good night, for time has claimed his prize. But tonight can always last as long as we keep alive the memories of paradise”

You know, I love this guy. Persistent enough to comment on numerous obcure Styx videos, maplpropistically bashing on the band as if he's the all knowing rock guru, yet irrational enough to defend himself when rebuked, as if he was bequeathed a great horror. By the way: Do you know what malpropistically means?

@vvjm1221 Agree but thats not gonna happen :( as far as I know as of 2003, Tommy Shaw does NOT want anything to do with dennis anymore. Tommy always wanted himself and JY to be frontmen, and in the early 2000s he got what he wanted and dumped dennis to the curb like he's trash!!! Thats just wrong.
