Tasmania's forests Timber harvesting in the Styx Valley in the 1940's part one.
The Styx valley has been subject to industrial logging for over 70 years, and is the birthplace of clearfell burn and sow silviculture from the 1960's.
It is now claimed by environmental groups as pristine wilderness containing high conservation value forest.

Very fortunate that such a High Quality Movie has been preserved in this good of condition on part of the of logging and how it was done in different countries. One of the Many invaluable services that KZbin Platform is providing is to be able to tap into the History of so many important parts of individual Country's History. Thank you to whoever up-loaded this video for all to see.

It makes me proud to say I have also logged in the Styx valley and the trees were bigger than these in the footage. I am now studying forest management to ensure that other young blokes looking to make a living in the bush can do so just as these blokes in this film did and as I did. I hope others begin to realise what the true green renewable industry can achieve if allowed to. even with the logging practices seen here there is still some of the best regrowth I have ever seen in that valley.

Michael Walker I have also, the faller fell three trees for the days work using an 088 and 6’ bar. A 5.5 log took a 26 ton and a 24 ton excavator to lower onto the truck

Not a tree hugger but what a disgrace that these giant trees were cut down to make news papers that in those days all would have ended up in landfill a week after they got printed!

@@geoffrey6000 yeah the real tragedy about the logging of tasmanian old growth is it gets turned into wood pulp when its some of the best timber in the world and should go towards construction and furniture

@@rag4877 in those days newspaper would've been used for many things like toilet paper, wrapping paper, insulation. it's modern people that read it and chuck it in landfill.

wood has been the most important and valuable resource in the past, present, and will continue in the future. Yap all you like, but logging today is perfectly environmentally safe, and the forest will always regenerate.
