No songs on social justice or drugs, nothing on atomic bombs, nothing ranking on politicians, just good songs about life, love, culture, surviving & working hard. They weren't loved by Rolling Stone magazine or the hippies on each coast. They simply worked their butts off on their music and their tours. They represented the midwest in every way they did things and that bothered a lot of music snobs. They didn't burn down or trash any hotels, spawn 50 illegitimate kids around the world or disrespect their customers, they wrote, they recorded and they played and they played well. That was Styx.

@Joe Kinchicken - They had plenty of hard rocking songs and plenty of great guitar moments. Just because they have a few songs you don't like doesn't make the entire band "pop suckage".

@Joe Kinchicken - Well for Journey, Infinity sounds a lot different than Frontiers for example which sounds a lot different than Trial By Fire. But I think the key is they didn't pander to trends for the most part. Frontiers is synth-heavy, but it's anchored by great songs which would sound great if the synths were replaced by piano or guitar.

Totally fucking agree johnny... who the RNRHOF people are is like a huge riddle wrapped in another fucking enigma... To think it took RUSH as long as it did to get in, and the fact that Styx should have been inducted many years ago... Oh, yeah, then there's Jethro Tull getting in .. WTFF (what the fucking-fuck)
@dumpygoodness4086
@dumpygoodness4086 5 жыл бұрын
SPREAD THE TRUTH the lying press and govt COVERS UP: the RNRHOF is a CRIMINAL ENTERPRISE ---- which explains every WTF question angy fans have. Jann Wenner is a rich kid who used Daddy's money to create Rolling Stone ragazine in 1970. JW doesn't even like music! (He just wanted to be hip and popular and rich, so he USED music.) RS was a sinking ship, so JW and fellow Super-Mafiosos in the Music BIZ fabricated teh FAKE HoF as a "NON-PROFIT" racket -- so they can take ALL the "charitable" donations, etc etc, and POCKET THEM. Not one shred is lawful, but who ya gonna call? Coward Police? Coward Atty Generals? THIS IS WHY THEY WILL NOT INDUCT 80% OF THE GREATEST ROCK BANDS from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. WHITNEY HOUSTON AND NOTORIOUS BIG HAVE ZERO TIES AND ZERO CONNECTIONS to Rock. So WHY do they get in before 80% of the bands who belong there? Because the Induction is more CRIMINAL FRAUD: they sell tables at the CEREMONY for $60,000 a pop. THIS is why they won't give free tix to every member of a band etc. (!!) Steve Miller was furious and he called them out as gangsters, which is PRECISELY what they are. (Look it up: police began as PRIVATE security for the Robber Barons, who then realized they could make sucker taxpayers pay for it instead!) JW THINKS "I CAN SELL MORE EXPENSIVE TIX TO WHOUSTON FANS THAN MOODY BLUES, at this time in history." MONEY and greed is the sole purpose of the HOF. Classic charity scam, etc.

I agree. Although I'm not necessarily complaining. The last few Styx albums with Gowan are brilliant, and DeYoung's 26 East Volumes 1 and 2 are quite fantastic as well. "Mr. DeYoung" taught me Science in 1971 at Clissold grade school in Chicago. He was sooooo cute. I was in the 5th grade and was always crushing on him. On the last day of class before summer break he handed out to us kids a photo of his band, TW4. All the members were in a circle looking down at the camera. In 1984 my kindergarten friend from Clissold told me that Mr. DeYoung was in Styx! My family had moved to Atlanta in 1971 when I was 12. I couldn't believe that his band was Styx! It was my high school favorite band! Dennis was truly a nice teacher, a real nice guy. Boy, was he cute back then! I finally saw them in Atlanta in 1997. I would never have guessed "Mr. DeYoung's" personality was so outgoing and vibrant.

I was a soldier during peacetime stationed in Frankfort, Germany in the mid 80s, I owned a 18 speed FUJI bicycle, a Sony Walkman, a Canon 1 Camera and decided to see a different city in Europe every single day off that I had, since the German people didnt mind us taking our bikes on the Eurail trains, this became almost an obsession with a group of us over there, We turned on Styx Paradise Theatre and jammed away and the miles we pedaled just disappeared. we had the best time of our lives, I am now an old man and disabled but I still look at the old photos and listen to the music on youtube and reminise about the good old days. by the way, our photos came out awesome. We drank a lot of cold german beer over there, met a lot of beautiful German women over there, anyway, thanks for letting me rant for a minute. have a nice day everyone and ROCK-ON!!!!!!!!!

I’m 19. I truly do appreciate the music of the modern age. I’ll admit, I listen to rap, hip hop, and modern pop a lot. But, nothing compares to bands like this. Styx is a prime example of pure talent and showmanship. I wish more people my age would not only appreciate these bands, but keep the genre alive with new bands drawing inspiration from the great bands like styx, Queen, foreigner, etc It’s frustrating since my generation definitely has many talented artists, but they don’t use their talents to produce good rock music like these older bands did. Hopefully it comes back

One way you could help is to get a big ghetto-blaster and walk down the street with it...Like some of us did, back in the day. That would turn some heads! LOL! Thanks for the appreciation of a generation of music slipping away. Have you listened to Alan Parson's "Tale of Mystery and Imagination"? All of their early stuff is really good. No longer are there great songs being produced. Culture has taken a nosedive. Really! Even country music has gone the way of rap and Bebop hip-hop country crap. I will always be grateful for these fine fellow Chicagonian musicians saving my life and giving me hope. I wanted to end my life when Angry young man was on my record player and it kept me going. I was abandoned by both parents, starving most of my youth and had one celery stick in the fridge. I had a 57 gibson sg that I used to learn the whole grand illusion album and every band wanted me in Rockford. But my depression held me down and I found hope in Grand Illusion that saved me from ending it all. Now I have five beautiful children and a beautiful wife to fulfill my days. I learned how to write songs because of STYX and what a blessing it has been. Now I have helped hundreds of people from suicide, drugs, and have passed on the gift I was given.

I just listened to "The Mission" and Dennis' absence is palpable both as a vocalist and songwriter. Tommy Shaw is brilliant, no two ways about it, but Styx was the counterpoint of Shaw's macho rock guitar with DeYoung's high-pitched theatrical vision. Also as much as I hate to say it, TM has nothing as catchy as Shaw's "Too Much Time on My Hands" or "Blue Collar Man." Jagger and Richards used to fight all the time, so did Gilbert and Sullivan. When everyone's in agreement you get Huey Lewis and the News.

I only know out of the many I've seen , this one particularly stands out. Perhaps because they returned to where they got their start - Chicago ? Not sure. At any rate , please just listen to the tightness , perfection , drive , electricity , fusion , energy , demeanors , enjoyment of the moment , lighting , sound , crowd , etc. Am sure most will agree this is a phenomenal concert. Maybe you have your own reasons. I'd love to hear them. We are all here , because Styx is a band we adore with all our hearts. So , in effect , we are a large Styx Family. An American rock treasure. These guys cannot be denied a place in the Rock H of F. For over 10 years they were dominant in the music industry and even in '97 and today(2020) they still sound as good as ever.

Damn shame Dennis DeYoung isn’t still part of it. I saw him in Costa Mesa, Ca., few years back and he still sounds great!! P.S. the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is a joke🤣!

OUTSTANDING!!! This is what rock is all about. Between the Beatles and 2000's great artists, stands STYX. Showmanship, musicianship, singing, and just excellent all around. THIS is what it's all about. I miss bands like this.

James Young & Tommy Shaw. Two great guitarists who complement each other like almost no others. In my opinion.

Styx- My Favourite Band. Like you said, two great complimentary lead guitarists- No Doubt. But, I would like to throw in (as a tie- because I can't pick which pair I love the most) Don Felder & Joe Walsh...

Such a great performance, all of the classics. RIP to original guitarist John Curelewski and underappreciated drumming hero John Panozzo.

Todd is an incredible drummer. He could keep any band (any style) in line and on tempo. He's also a very normal guy that will actually reply to you if you send him a message. His wife Taylor is also a great singer as well.

It's easy to forget sometimes, with how polished their songs and albums were, there wasn't a single bad or even "only average" musician in this band. Every single one of them on that stage is fucking KILLING IT. I forgot how much I love Styx. Also, go check out Tommy Shaw's 2016 "Sing For The Day" concert vids with the kids' orchestra. Amazing stuff. Also also, Chuck's look is amazing. :D
