Su was the originals that made this fanfare. Think about it. Out of all the tuba sections you see play this, su are the only ones that's throwing their hands around. Its called "voodoo" for a reason.

Now mr rose you know txsu didn't write this fanfare. A Alabama crab at SU wrote this in the early 80's. It was a Louisiana "voodoo" charm fanfare. Hence the reason the band is throwing their hands around like they casting a spell. I'll see you next summer for HUMB to talk more about it

Super late but like someone said, that’s their tradition, like how JSU’s tubas hold their tubas half way off their body, it’s SU’s tradition for their tubas to hold their hand like that. That’s the good thing about HBCU bands, they each have their unique traditions
