But for me personally, not writing their own music doesn't devalue them as an artist, bc even performing in itself includes so much talent. Everyone can sing the same song, but everyone will showcase it in a different way. I just watched the whole thing, the person he competed against, Gai, was really good in that performance, it was also completely different from what he usually does, even tho I’ve never heard of him before this show, I honestly think his performance and song was better, Lay was good but there wasn’t really anything memorable or special about it except for his makeup (in my opinion). Gai’s beat and lyrics were just better in general (to me.) Edit: I’d also like to add that the majority of people voting were young people and some of them were fans of Lay, the other contestants don’t get to vote

They might have known Lay from other variety shows, but the director of this show has deliberately chosen people who aren't fans of any of these singers for fair judging. Gai is one of the best rappers in China, so basically all the Chinese fans of Lay are really glad that Lay can compete with these talented artists and learn from each other.

Yixing is a very admirable person, although he exceeds in all aspects of being a good artist he is constantly looking for ways to improve and challenge himself to continue on growing and perfecting his skills. I know on the show many were envious of his success but his success only came through hard work and resilience. Just look at Liu Yu Xin (an idol/youth with you 2 contestant) in street dance. A guy deadass said ‘what’s so good about idols? All they know is some kpop dance, what’s so great about it.’

i think it mostly comes from a place of ignorance; to set the context some of these singers are really well-respected and arguably more famous in the larger context of china (like how in korea most kpop fans are the younger generation; you can see this from how Miss Trot is the highest ranked show in korea now, but most of us don't know a single singer on that show.... similarly many koreans don't know much about idols unless you're in that demographic);; I don't think the older singers were wrong to assume idols don't make their own music- majority of idols, korean or chinese, don't, even though there are famous exceptions like the ones you've listened: I don't think anything is wrong with that, and we don't rly have an expectation of our idols to do so either, and we love them just the same! but yea they probably should have been a lot more respectful, and I'm rly glad towards the end their opinions changed and they understood better that just bc they're an idol doesn't always mean they know nothing >

Madi and Gai were a kinda disrespectful towards Yixing in the beginning. Especially Madi; he talked as if idols were less than any other artists; literally saying he didn’t respect them. Then when he was put in the same level as Yixing, he looked back out the door like thinking he made a mistake going to that room. Then he let slide that the only good thing about Yixing’s performance was “the make up”.... I’m glad Yixing showed them that he is as hardworking as them; or even more; and almost all of them changed their mindset about him after his performance. Even though Yixing forgot the lyrics during the demo presentation, we all know it’s because the boy doesn’t even sleep; plus he was very nervous about showing the song to all these great composers. Yixing is very shy by nature, and they all made him uncomfortable as soon as he entered the room. So, again, I’m glad he then shut them up by showing he can actually compose, and made it clear for everyone that he’s “not a head figure”, he’s an artist. ... Overall; I agree with the results; except maybe Chen Li and Zheng Jun; I liked his song better; and Chen Li’s song sounded very familiar to me. Let’s see what the next episode brings! I hope Yixing can show off more skills!

I see that a lot of the comments here are from Lay’s fans, and I can understand why, since I clicked on the video because of him too. However, I still want us fans and EXO-Ls to be more aware and respectful of other Chinese artists too. They are super talented: most of their songs are greatly composed. The way most of them control their voice and tempo is superb. Please, we all can support our idol, but refrain from talking down other artists. Much love. I've never watched a Chinese reality show and it's fascinating observing the cultural differences between Chinese and Korean. I see that our lovely LAY still retains the Korean mannerisms when it comes to etiquette. I'm rooting hard for Lay. He really deserves so much respect. He doesn't have to put himself out there for harsh criticism. He already has fame, success and money. It seems the other contestants are trying to attain these things while he's already there. It's amazing how little these people think about an idol's skills and talents. It shocks me that they're surprised he composes his own music, plays instruments, etc. I'm glad he's educating people. Go Lay!

@@benjiaaazhang9249 I'm sorry. I wasn't implying that he didn't have manners. I was speaking about his mannerisms which is different and learned from his time in Korea. They aren't huge things but for a Korean it is a noticeable difference and shows how well rounded he is and retains customs of various cultures. Some examples I've noticed: the way he bows all the time when greeting people, is a bit more formal (language-wise) when meeting people, extends one arm while placing the other on the inner elbow of the extended arm when receiving something, etc. I hope this clarifies it a little better.

I'm sorry, but seems like no matter how big the effort our Lay has put, the first thing they see on him is "aahh, idol" this is annoying, like so what? Because he's idol he can't produce his own music? Make a great music? Just because he's an idol, that's what make him suddenly viral? Oh no, just this "idol" label won't get you anywhere, but what makes you an "idol" is the talent. "His dance is good, looks like he's trained" ok, you mean you don't need any train or practice to do the "good dance?" Please, even if you're not an idol you gotta train your stamina and your body moves to be able to do dance.
