Pablo said: "Itadakemasu!" "I cook music. Eat well. Digest well." Its very timely they performed MAPA as their second song coz its lyric video had just reached its 100 Million views on YT.
MAPA, composed by their leader Pablo. In Tagalog, MAPA usually refers to a MAP, but Pablo sees it as a tribute to our parents who guide us through life's journey, akin to a MAP guiding travel. Additionally, MAPA holds familial significance, representing both "MAma" (mother) and "PApa" (father). Breaking it down further, "MA" symbolizes "MAta" (eyes), and "PA" signifies "PAa" (feet) in Tagalog, adding layers of meaning to this creative linguistic play. The song "MAPA" serves as a heartfelt tribute to the unwavering support and love of the artists' parents. It conveys the message that it's now the artists' turn to work and provide for their parents, acknowledging the sacrifices and struggles their parents endured while raising them. It symbolizes a sincere effort to reciprocate the care and dedication received during their upbringing. Pablo beautifully compares our parents to a guiding map in life's journey. Similar to how a map directs us anywhere we go, our parents provide guidance and support throughout our lives. They are like a constant beacon, helping us navigate through challenges and uncertainties. Just as a map helps us find our way back home when needed, our parents are there for us in times of need. As we journey through life, we encounter various modes of transportation such as vehicles, airplanes, or ships, each representing the highs and lows we experience. Despite facing ups and downs, riches and setbacks, the map of parental guidance remains our steadfast companion. It serves as a tool to overcome loneliness and adversity, ensuring that we find our way through life's trials with their unwavering support.

There is no greater feeling as a fan of SB19 to see new people being moved so much by the songs that have become so important to us not only as fans but as everyday people. Pablo and the rest of the boys put so much of themselves into these songs... their art is deeply personal. Thank you so much for your reaction, Maho, and I hope your feelings and thoughts as you watched Mapa bring you peace. :)

I understand how you're touched by the lyrics. I am not Japanese but I have a Japanese friend who told me their people are very respectful to their elders, much more to their parents and as much as possible they try to give back to their parents for the untiring care and love given to them. We Asians and people in general share the same value and this is SB19's legacy that they want to impart to the world.

This is the power of music and lyrics. Even if it is in a different arrangement it still made people cry. Some were so proud (not the first time watching mapa) some were still touched (for those who watch it the first time) and some were reminiscing (memories from watching mapa before as well as memories from parents). This is a masterpiece 👏🏻

Josh, who sang the part about Father actually grew up without a father and raised alone by his mom... He still did pulled it off perfectly singing those lines he never get to experience... And, yes they are all very family oriented and very good sons....They once sang this on their concert with their MAPA where Ken cried hard because it was the first time he has his family with him on stage after all those permances of MAPA where he was the only one without a family member with him... Pablo was able to wrote the lyrics by asking the members what they wanted to tell their parents while they were doing their laundry... Thank you for this RV and for the previous ones... i like the way you do your reaction... Hope for more SB19 RV..

There's a significant difference between Filipino and Japanese cultures. Filipino culture is expressive and straightforward-we say things as they are, which is also reflected in our songs. On the other hand, Japanese culture tends to favor implied communication rather than being straightforward. For instance, in the Philippines, we say "Mahal kita" to express "I love you." In Japan, expressing feelings might be more indirect, such as saying "The moon is beautiful tonight, isn’t it?" to convey similar sentiments.
Thank you for the thorough analysis of the song. I appreciate your keen observation of its nuances. SB19's vocal technique is an excellent reference for singing. I also loved your singing voice and Tagalog pronunciation. 😊

MAPA IS NOT A SAD SONG To International fans and to anyone who’s intrigue with the meaning of the song I hope this explanation shade some meaning to MAPA. First, MAPA is a song about MAMA and PAPA= MA+PA. The word MAPA in Filipino means MAP! Second, the song is a letter to every mom and Dad and even to every mother and father figure, to every guardian, to every person who foster or care a child/children. Third, IT IS NEVER INTENDED TO BE A SAD SONG BUT IT IS A SONG THAT EVOKE EMOTIONS. The whole meaning of the song is about being thankful to all Mama and Papa for what they did (for everything they did) that make every child of what they are now. Fourth, MAPA which means MAP is highlighted in the bridge part where Pablo is singing it. So, part of the meaning pf the song is that every MAMA and PAPA guide us to become who we wanted to be and what we become now. It is like saying THEY made a MAP for us so we would be prepared for every struggle and joy that we will face in the future and this Map will also be used as a guide for the next children/child (our future children). And MAPA also means being HUMBLE and being THANKFUL, that you know where you came from and who to be grateful for. LASTLY, Pablo’s lyrics is so incomparable, esp if you understand Filipino. This is why many called this a MASTERPIECE coz the play of words combines with the melody really evoke emotions from you. The phrases “LATARATARA” doesn't have a meaning (dictionary), it is just a hum, or a phrase used as humming when a parent let their children bring to sleep (this is also why many Filipinos can sing coz it is engrave in us the moment we were born, to appreciate music even when there is no lyrics) So SB19 singing “LATARATARA” also means that they are doing what their parents done to them before they sleep. It signifies that “I GOT THIS (Mom and Dad), let me take care of you, from now on let me take your burden away. Let me provide for you.” But when the translation brings up “REST” that does not mean “death” (but it could be in the future) but the intended translation would be “get some rest, I got this. I will take care of you”. That is why, MAPA IS NOT A SAD SONG.

But it makes many people sad because they start missing their parents… which is good. Reminds many of us to be more grateful and maybe reach out to them if we don’t regularly do. With songs, it all about how the listener responds to it. Some days MAPA will be a song that brings a smile to your face, some days it’ll make you cry. 😊
