Funny thing is I got called into my managers office at my old job cause apparently me saying I would "Try and catch a shoplyfter" if I was watching them about to run out is a bad thing, didn't give me a reason for it being bad so you are 100% right to saying you would do nothing.

Or even if the criminal is the one that gets injured. Imagine you grabbing at him, he stumbles and hits his head and dies in a freak accident. You've now killed a person over petty theft. Or they get injured and sue you. Not worth it.

I worked in an arcade and can confirm I would take any opportunity to chase someone because its more fun than not chasing someone. One time I caught a guy and didn't know what to do so I just said "guess you know you're banned?" And then walked back as slowly as possible

It's not that they "cba". When you work in retail you're told not to chase shoplifters because you have no way of knowing if they're armed or dangerous. The company aren't liable if something happens to you when you chase someone off the premises.

The thieves who were rolling were doing that to not set off the motion security system. Since they knew the model of safe and how to drill into it, they probably had inside information. Considering they successfully robbed the place, them rolling on the floor absolutely worked. Definitely a genius move and the owner is capping by trying to call them stupid.
