I like how Lawrence compares the looks of SVX with Calibra and Silvia. They all have a similar design language of a low front end, wedge-shaped low stance bodyshell, this handsome design tone had gone for good as newer cars keep getting chunkier. First seen a SVX displayed alongside with some first-gen Legacy 4-door saloon in Argyle Street showroom in early 90s, in love with SVX's futuristic vibe. Well passed the golden era when Japanese car makers were still keen to make exotic cars. I agree with you that Subaru made SVX to be a gran tourer, unlike most other Japanese car makers at that time they produced their flagships as sports cars (some exceptions though: SC400, Mazda Cosmo).
IF you tell me SVX is a citroen, i'll believe you. Looks a bit like XM on the outside and 505 in the inside. maybe my memory betrays me, in america , SVX sells under the name of Subaru, not Alcyone, while Honda created Acura to sell integra and legend seperately ; with huge success. Part of the reasons of SVX dismal sales resembles its campain slogan : " Son, I thought you bought a Subaru " said a father when he saw his son's SVX. I agree 100% it is a good car, but people has hard time relates the car with the brand.
