I and others take their BRZ/GR86 to the track without removing the oil pan and our cars are fine. Go higher on oil viscosity. Glad to see others are trying to fix this.
@JermJermFloresАй бұрын
Why it’s literally proven these cars have silicone in the pickup on 90% of the cars and sure higher viscosity is great I stand by that but that won’t solve oil flow if there’s complete blockage
@ORG8Ай бұрын
@@JermJermFlores There is no complete blockage the way it was built. A channel that tested baffles that made it worse and others BRZ owners including myself have gone to the track without a blown engine.
@dallonrellim1685Ай бұрын
Unfortunately a far more tricky install due to set up, curious about a better designed pickup though, or if there is possibly another gally somewhere that can be used to create a better feed system, without having to jump straight to a dry sump
@theiagchannelАй бұрын
We are working on more reliable ways to feed oil to the engine.
@kchan333Ай бұрын
Baffle won't work... oil has trouble returning back to the pan during high g-forces. That's why over doing it with the baffle can make pressure drops worse. Increasing oil volume is the solution... or is Miata the answer? 😆
@bigkaswrx8115Ай бұрын
Try making a HUGE sump, im talking like 8 litre capacity. I wonder if its simply an issue of too little oil capacity? Ive always thought the 4.5 quartz in EJs is way less for a performance engine
@ruturaj47Ай бұрын
I think the best bet right now is t0 design a bigger oil pan not giving much thought to stock headers, increase capacity so kuch that there is no need to overfill, pair it with a baffle and aftermarket unequal length header, maybbe even design a new pick up tube.

@theiagchannel have you guys tried running an s2000 oil filter. I know there are some other guys who tried that with this motor and found that the Subaru filters don’t flow as good as the s2000 ones. Something about the baffle design in the filter.

That is an interesting idea. We will have to look into that!

@@theiagchannel they ran a 1 liter over fill and s2000 filter. They have an accusump setup to read with the pressure switch and it logs to an AIM solo 2 DL. They have had zero activations of the pressure going below 35 psi with the current setup. The video is on the sub2club KZbin page under the red GR86 video

there is actually alot of people working on this including race teams , there is alot of info online . This video is actually complete trash when it comes to testing for the oiling issues they didnt run any sensors or provide any data on the long turns it was just some inexperienced drivers input and a random mechanic after the fact stating what he found when taking thigs apart that is such a terrible way to do this im really really disappointed IAG is doing thigs this way
@theiagchannelАй бұрын
The driver runs competitively in Gridlife and the "random mechanic" is crew chief of the racing program as well as an engineer. While we may not have talked about specifics in this video, we certainly gathered valuable information from the multitude of installed sensors to continue development.

How about a pick up redesign that centers it
@IAGDeweyАй бұрын
This was/is still a consideration but the pickup isn't easy to change on these engines. The entire front cover has to come off and that makes it quite a bit more labor intensive than we had hoped for. We still have some tricks up our sleeve so stay tuned ;)

@WakeMtzАй бұрын
It's oil getting stuck on the heads and timing belt? A baffle will not help that much. Either a very well placed scavenging pump, a bigger oil pan, or just simply filling up the empty spaces of the timing belt cover with something to prevent accumulation would be the real solution.
@theiagchannelАй бұрын
Yes part of the problem is oil is getting stuck in the heads and not returning to the pan. Part of the problem is oil is leaving the pan from the PCV return
@dorianleclair7390Ай бұрын
Sounds like oil pick up needs redesign too.
@yogimarkmacАй бұрын
Yes it is an issue, but just how significant is it? Have 1 out of 10 owners tracking their car had lost an engine from this? NO. Have 1 out of 100? NO. That makes me think this type of video makes for great click bait and is also responsible for causing widespread misconceptions that make lots of people incorrectly think that these are bad cars. Sales for the BRZ are tanking and it will soon be part of the history books, quite possibly in large part due to misperceptions, and that makes me sad. I've been autocrossing for a couple seasons without any issue. I keep it half a quart past full, and sometimes add some 30W. Somewhere down the road are an oil cooler and an Accusump to really make it a track car (unless there's a new oil pan by then).
@lukegallo1272Ай бұрын
oh no 😱 sales are tanking?!? maybe if they didn't put a grenade of an engine in the car?? This is a well known problem with boxer engines that has already been resolved in porsches and higher end subaru's and yet they chose to ignore it. Sales should tank because no one should buy this car, especially at the price point they are demanding...
@jaron95Ай бұрын

@artblackwood7936Ай бұрын
You don't necessarily have to blow it up to be doing damage. Those oil pressure drops are because of the introduction of air. Air is a notoriously poor lubricant. I would think that the oiling issue would play a small roll in people purchasing decision. Like you said, not that many have lost engines and there are solutions already and coming to negate the issue. My guess is that if sales are dropping, that the lack of power and hints that there could be a turbo version coming would hurt sales.
@matthewwain9958Ай бұрын
To be fair, you can barely find a brz at a Subaru dealership to even buy.
@bigkaswrx8115Ай бұрын
To be fair every single person I know who has taken a BRZ or EJ on a track day has had engine failures 🤷♂️😄 this is an issue with Subarus engines ehich has been known since the 90's, Subaru simply dont/cant/wont solve the issue because their sales are so strong.
