@consaka19 жыл бұрын
Trent Nelson lol True that but now you are getting into the science of lbs per square inch. Narrow tires perform better in the on road snow. More weight equals better traction. The wider your tires the more weight you will need to get a set amount of traction. Too many people don't realize that. They think their 325 50 R 19 tires are the best thing since sliced bread. Till they get in snow that is. ;) Personally I like my LT 235 85R16 winter tires. Those work very well. Turns that hard packed snow into gravel traction.
@MitchellWongHo9 жыл бұрын
Those exhausts and turbos sound GREAT!
@rogerpacific88248 жыл бұрын
Just a note SPINNING TIRES DOES NOT MAKE TRACTION. Just let the tire pressure down to about 8 pounds and it will walk around just like snow shoes. You must have a portable air pump on board which are cheep any way. Letting the pressure down will flatten the foot print and if you don't spin the tires you will have all the traction you will need. Your auto does have 4 wheel drive and it will do very well. Just try it. I know I have been an off roader for 40 years. Sand, mud, and snow. Low tire pressure works on all it it. But when you get back on the highway you need to air them up to normal. Have fun off road. Best to you.
@ModFoz8 жыл бұрын
Roger Pacific I've tried that in this car, doesn't really work as well as people say. Spinning the tires allows the tires to dig through the snow, and get down to the dirt/gravel underneath. These specific tires don't air down on snow very well either, as I've also tried that in various situations and it never seemed to help.

@@UpInSmoke54 I agree that dedicated winter tires (such as a Blizzak or Hakkappelitta) is a much better choice. But running a winter-rated all-terrain tire is a much better choice than a standard non-winter rated all-season tire. Ive been running winter-rated all-terrain tires for the past 10 years on this car in Colorado and they’ve worked fine. Not as good as dedicated winters, but I have dedicated winters on my other car. Boxer motors don't like to run at extreme angles. Something oil flow related I've been told. Anytime a wheel is coming off of the ground is not good right? It does look fun though. Next time get your friend to try deflating his tires a bit so we can see if it grabs better traction. I know it will. Here in Lake Tahoe I out maneuver Toyata 4runners all the time by running 12 to 15 psi in my WRX when the roads get bad. That is with all season radial tires.

My STi had limited slip I bet it would do better in the snow because you can see in your video only 1 wheel front and rear are spinning. I sure miss that car.
@ModFoz9 жыл бұрын
Forester XTs also have rear limited slip diffs. Stock Subaru LSDs work well on the flat, but when you're in a ditch or have a tire in the air, you'll still get diagonal spin.
@TraceyAllen9 жыл бұрын
Some times trying not to spin works better. Oh yeah and a shovel. Good video. Miss my old legacy.

+Tracey Allen My thoughts exactly. The traction control can't do it's job when you're on and off the throttle like that. A steady pressure would have been better than that rocking crap he was doing.
@ModFoz8 жыл бұрын
+TheWeakKnights Traction control was never equipped and never an option on Forester's until 2007. Please educate yourself before you start criticizing he methods of which people self-rescue their vehicles. The "rocking" you saw is in fact the proper way to unstuck a vehicle with or without traction control (in fact, most off road drivers turn off traction control as it interferes with the tried and true methods of getting unstuck)

wow that Suburu Forrester is a bad ass little car,,now i wanna buy one of these..
@Chappomusic9 жыл бұрын
Enjoyed the fun in the snow but please if you want to get out of trouble: use your park break and a bit less full throttle will do .. Black Sub will take you everywhere.
@ModFoz9 жыл бұрын
+Chappomusic The infamous "parking brake trick" does not work, nor have I seen anyone else manage to get it to work. It's a wives tale. I've attempted it numerous times in different situations. If anything, it makes thing worse.

Funny and joyful. Adding tire chain s on the car is a direct solution.

I used to drive through snow deeper than that with my 75 Chevy Impala,. Rear wheel drive, with studded snow tires and posi-traction dif.
@ModFoz4 жыл бұрын
I’m sure you did.
@timhallas42754 жыл бұрын
@@ModFoz If you are my age, then you know I did. We drove our cars jacked up on oversized springs and ran 10 inch wide rims. I ran G-60s front and rear... even my snow tires were 60s. I could have plowed snow with that car.

i'm looking at an '04 Impreza TS, the good old Hatchback version, definitely will be fun in the winter
@ModFoz10 жыл бұрын
It will. Forester's/Imprezas/WRX are essentially all the same, just different bodies. You'll have fun for sure!
@thenerdycanadian717210 жыл бұрын
bluefox4848 what would suggest for the first mods/performance upgrades?
@ModFoz10 жыл бұрын
TheNerdyCanadian Stage II. High flow catted-downpipe, accessport Stage II map or custom tune, STi 19mm rear sway bar.

I love this. I love fucking around in the snow. Doing perfect 4wd donuts in a parking lot = win. Also I love foresters and outbacks, would love to pick one up some day. Keep up the awesome engine notes and making the best of this weather!
@ModFoz10 жыл бұрын
Thanks! When the snow is forecasted......me and my roommates (all with Turbo Foresters) wait and when it starts to dump, we all head out and hoon around. Snow is awesome.
@offroader2310 жыл бұрын
Yeah it sure is. It's great for the first day, when everything's covered and fairly un-plowed on the main roads. It's the point where it's all salty and gross that I hate. I wish my friends did things like that but mostly I just do it by myself for fun in my truck. Still enjoy every second of it, snow is great. It's other people that ruin the weather

Fun to watch also. Reminds me of around hat time when my father got his cargo van stuck that was a handful to get out too.

Might want some mud and snows on it. We have a 2014 Outback and we know better. It will get out but it will take a little. They are truly never stuck. My husband got his older Outback out of a 5 foot drop of the side of the road. He dug a little snow and it drove right up.
@jamesm35933 жыл бұрын
Well I see this video is six years old but if you guys still check out and read your comment section look up like a 2006 2009 Subaru outback with a lift kit. After seeing some pictures of one I can’t wait to do it to mine they look freaking bad ass

The Forester. Good practicable fun cars! I'm lucky enough to have two versions. A XT & a Sti!
@ModFoz9 жыл бұрын
Mark Guest A Forester STi is my dream car, hopefully I can re-create one over here in the states one of these days.
@guestandsons9 жыл бұрын
bluefox4848 Here in the UK they are still a rare car. The £ to Yen is rubbish then also there is the import tax of 20% on top. So they are over twice the price of a similar age 2.5XT model. Which is also a fast car to 60mph.Yes it is a big project but it is possible to do. I've seen on KZbin American car mechanics converting XT to STI. The 6 speed manual box is a lot of fun on these STI's!
