People saying that really aren't considering the whole point of the last season. That entire second core was about Subaru learning to value his life! Learning that people care about him and grieve when he dies. How can he ever go back to thinking of his life as a tool and being okay with dying after that? He's got too many people counting on him and too much to lose. He has friends. He has a girl he loves and who is starting to fall in love with him. He's got another in a coma who needs saving. And he's got a direct empathetic connection to a depressed great spirit who he dragged from the edge of suicide and promised to fill with a lifetime of wonderful memories. Now he must abandon and fail them all, leave that whole timeline to despair, and just be cool with that?

@@mgh7634 I agree with what you're saying, but didn't the last season establish that Subaru is most likely not creating multiple timelines when he dies? Echidna told him that the alternate timelines he was seeing during the trial were just illusions(created by his subconscious), and that she couldn't give him a definitive answer if there were multiple timelines, but she said she was pretty sure there wasn't. Plus since Echidna saw all of it that means she herself has been present for all of it, not an alternate version of her. I'd say his power is more than likely closer to time rewinding, not Subaru's consciousness getting sent back in time(we even see a reversal/rewind effect when he dies). So, while he doesn't want to die, he isn't really worried about causing alternate versions of his friends grief. Him being sick was probably like the OP said. He hasn't died in a year, and what he saw was not only horrific, he was also laughing and clapping along. Maybe the manga establishes later on that there are definitively multiple timelines, but as of now the anime has deconfirmed it(or has at least left it ambiguous).

After Priscilla comes to the meeting uninvited and says all the nonsense about making things more interesting by bringing Heinkel when Reinhard and Wilhelm were trying to reconnect after so long Subaru says this to defend them. Subaru wasn't talking about himself. But the CR sub made it seem like he was getting worked up from feeling offended. When it's actually the opposite. Subaru doesn't care what other people say about him but he won't tolerate people abusing his friends. I know Japanese is a context-based language which makes it hard to translate sometimes but this was a really obvious mistake. Subaru actually said : You're telling me it's okay to emotionally abuse people all you want?!

@alfdog83 Honestly, the death was, for the most part was the same, except in the novel. Sirius says that it's "Such a kind world" after Subaru and the crowds' bodies blew up. There was just more detail describing the joy and love the crowd was feeling as Sirius was giving her speech. It was made very clear early into her speech that she had put everyone in the audience under her authority, which is why the crowd was reacting the way they did. Oh, and there was a line from the boy where, before Sirius dropped him to his death, he asked for the crowd to stop reacting this way and help him. The boy was aware right before he died that she had done something to the audience that made them react in such a strange way.

When i started to actually process what was going on it started as full body goosebumps, and then the drop punches the breath thats being held right out. The way Subaru crouched down and grabbed at his arm after dying was so sad. It was like he was curling into some kind of defensive position to comfort himself physically and mentally. He had Beako and Emilia nearby to help and he just crumpled to the ground. It really hurt to watch.

It gets worse. This Subaru is aware that the timelines in which he is killed may continue on, leaving devastated survivors to mourn and deal with the fallout of his passing. It's why he learned to value his life and not let a moment go to waste. It's why he trained so hard this past year to be able to fight, even if he'll never be strong enough to fight on even terms with half the cast of enemies they're up against. Now suddenly after a year of happiness he has to cope with the idea of Emilia, Rem, Beatrice, and all his friends having to carry on in the world where Sirius exploded his head. He has to think about how much that would devastate all of them, especially Beatrice, a spirit he pulled from the brink of suicide with the promise of a lifetime of happy memories and who has become like family to him this past year. Death will never again be okay for Subaru.

the scariest part about that ending was when it showed everyone in the crowd was in tears showing they were fully aware what was happening and couldnt control themselves as they cheered on the brutal death of a child, like damn i can see why subaru just imidiately curld over sick upon returning. im guessing the moment wrath gained control of them was when she clapped her hands together as after that she pointed out she could tell a few peoples original emotions i the crowd

Idk if they really were tearing up from being scared and helpless but rather tearing up of incommensurably deep admiration, for whatever the sorcery made them feel like. It was only after dying and coming back, without the grasp of the sorcery, that Subaru felt how screwed up all those feeling were after watching what happened, imagine feeling a weird sense of community and admiration in spectacle of the murder of a child, and then waking up after the child is dead and too late. You’d feel sick to the stomach even more than just being internally screaming that it is wrong when it’s happening. They were feeling exhilarated about the child sacrifice, and they encouraged it in front of this terrorized boy for no reason, while he was wailing helplessly in incomprehension.

Why was Emilia chosen as as a royal selection candidate to begin eith, you ask? Well, the Divine Dragon gave the current interim government a prophesy through the dragon tablet, where five dragon maidens would be selected using the insignias (I think they’re meant go serve as proof of being part of the royal family during normal times). The modern kingdom of Lugunica gained its legitimacy from the covenant between Farsale Lugunica and Volcanica, so in the absence of the royal family, Volcanica got saddled with the responsibility of maintaining the current system, hence the weird methodology. As for how Emilia was recognized as a candidate, it was because Roswaal’s tome of wisdom told him she was a candidate, and guided him there. As for what the Divine Dragon sees in Emilia, well, we don’t know yet, though we have some strong hints from later on in the story.

It was at the first time. You can notice that before encountering the archbishop, you can hear bells toll right when Liliana is saying the thing for the 2nd time, but after Subaru returns by death, Liliana says the thing but there is a pause and THEN the bell tolls and Liliana doesn't repeat her line. Subaru's point of return is right when Liliana says the line once.

Keep in mind, this is Subaru’s first Return by Death after promising Satella to value his own life more. He has gone a whole year without dying, so this one is extra bad, especially considering Sirius’s ability giving him emotional whiplash after returning.

This is something a lot of folk aren't considering. Subaru fought so hard in Season 2's second core NOT to die exactly because he's learned to value his life. He's learned that people grieve when he dies, that the things he saw in his Unthinkable Presents may well have happened and may happen every time he dies, and he has so very much to lose now, so he absolutely does NOT want to die and doesn't see his death as a tool any longer for him to gain advantages in future tries. All he can think about when he dies is what will happen to everyone else, of the pain and danger that will come to those he loves in that timeline that now must go on. Of how it will hurt Emilia, how it will grieve his friends, how it will diminish Rem's chances of ever waking again since he's the only one right now who remembers her, how it will *devastate* Beatrice who has only within this last year started coming out of her shell. It's why he focused so hard on what amounts to basic military training within this past year, just to increase his chances of surviving when threats arise.

When he transforms, he doesn't typically make a conscience choice to kill. Or at least he didn't. Nor does he choose to transfer just so he can kill. He did choose to transform but he typically did that just to fight better and not have to think or feel. At the times when he killed while transformed, it was because he lost control. He had a habit of transforming to shut down his mind and emotions. It's like a literal beast takes control of him. When he fought Otto and Ram before fighting Subaru at the temple for instance, he couldn't remember what he did to them, just woke up with blood all over him and you can tell that bothered him. Even Subaru could tell and its why he called him a big soft idiot when he brought him out of it.

Please read this, there were a couple really crappy translation issues. 1st, when Subaru got mad after Priscilla showed up and interrupted Wilhelm and Reinhards family moment. He said “so it doesn’t matter how much I have to suffer?”. Completely wrong line. The translator messed it up. It was supposed to say “so you think you can just mess with peoples feelings?”. He was mad on wilhelms behalf. I have no idea how they messed that up And secondly, the part about the kingdom. And heinkel. Where Subaru and Julias were talking. The message that was supposed to be conveyed is “The royalty of lugunica are afraid of heinkel, because if he rebelled, they would be worried that Wilhelm and Reinhard would side with him. Again, they messed that up entirely too. Oh, and this isn’t a translation. But it’s a little cut content. Subaru had actually met liliana in the 1 year timeskip. There’s a side story about it. But the anime pretended this was when they first met. The fact that they knew eachother makes their silly song duet make a bit more sense lol. Even if it was mostly just a joke So I hope you get to read this. Great reaction!!

Pay atention to the guy in white. Pay atention to subaru's growth too, This guy is going to get hella strong, in a weird and cool way. Also, Garfiel, the princesses and heinhardt will grow on everyone. When they annouced this new season I was in a state of pure joy because I remember reading this and losing my mind. This arc is hella long, really, I don't know if less than 16 eps can get everything of the novel.
