Subaru OB 2,0D - MY 2014 | Oil Dilution | How to avoid Limp Mode

A short video showing the routine which allows to set manually the oil dilution counter of the ECU back to zero, which is a nice tip to avoid the engine to fall into limp mode. Together with some considerations on the close link between oil dilution and soot accumulation and how to minimize both phenomenons.

Very Interesting, what application is being used to monitor oil dilution?

A relatively cheap & standard OBDII device can be used for this monitoring purpose, without being able to trigger forced regens in case of high soot accumulation.

Tks! This operation is actually described in the vehicle owner's manual (chapter 11-22). Regardless of DPF management, the reset must be performed after every oil change anyway, and must be available to the owner without dedicated OEM software. It should therefore be described in your manual too. Cheers,

Worth a try! If you see the glowplug light flashing for 3 seconds after the explained routne, your oil dilution is back to 0%. Connedting an OBDII device to check this wil also help. Cheers

Hi, try the routine showed on the video but with the light switch turned from off to - "o-o" position instead of head light. Should work ;-)

@@johnsmith-bi4ho Sorry to hear that. The "valid" procedure for your 2016 model must be described in the owner's manual as well since the oil dilution counter needs to be reset when changing the engine oil. (Paragraph 11-20 in my OB BR 2014 manual). Hope this will help.
