Thanks for the video and assistance. This will come in handy when I am attempting to replace my steering pump lines as the pump itself looks fine. I don't have the money to invest to take it to the shop nor do I know anyone who is willing do it for me so I have been learning to do my own mechanic work.

Well done, you gave me the courage and guidance to tackle this job myself and avoid the $850 that Heuberger Motors in Colorado Springs wanted to charge me for this job...for a 2008 Subaru Outback I bought from them three months ago. The very expensive warranty I purchased (Zurich Re is the insurance company) did not cover the power steering pump because it was not a "named component" in the warranty brochure. A rebuilt pump is $100. I am retired and avoiding this bullet means something to me. Thanks for the post.

Thanks so much for sharing this!!! I think it's so important to encourage and share with people how to actually do things for themselves vs. hiring EVERYTHING to be done for them! Great video and great job! Thanks again.

If you fill the pump and hand prime it by turning the wheel by hand in the proper direction prior to final connection and turning on the engine, you will avoid much air in the system and hence no squealing.

Thanks for posting Ray. On the cost I was able to recharge my '10 Forester A/C for less than $40 by watching a vid here on KZbin. You can save a lot by watching what others have done here.

I liked the part when someone started talking to you mid tear down. I think it would be awesome to see videos like this with people talking about everyday stuff while taking care of business.

Just replaced the PS pump on my '08 Legacy Outback without removing radiator hose or coolant. Very easy - took less than an hour. Also was able to elevate the whole assembly above the level of the reservoir and then just swap the hoses to the new pump and put it all back together only losing maybe a half cup of PS fluid. Remember - the long lower bolt goes to the right and the short one to the left!

super helpful till the thing disappears what about the bolt holding it in place

You can get hose crimpers (or use needle nose vise grips) to pinch the rubber lines so it wont spray fluid

I'm going to replace the pump tomorrow on my 2000 Outback. Was it really necessary to take off the radiator hose? I want to do the job without causing a big mess cuz I live in an apartment complex. Thanks for sharing the vid!!

Pretty simple he is removing first the exhaust vacuum then the tensioner for the belt then the hoses and then the housing bolts I’m not sure I’m about to do it myself but it looks simple I’m not sure all of the removing was necessary but I’ll see

Hey great video but you went through a lot of unnecessary trouble. These things are plug and play: remove the belt, remove all the bolts and hoses holding it in, swap out parts, and reattach. Cheers

the reason it squealed at the end is because you forgot to drain the air out of the pump, this was the main reason why it started to foam.
