yessss i know this is an old post but coming back to these episodes before season 3 comes out and just seeing how loveable of a character subaru is in arc 4 is so amazing. Subaru has to be the best main character in anime im totally not biased

The author noted in an interview that in the real world, Subaru's parents are still looking for him with the police everyday but to no avail. His Mom is an emotional mess whereas his Dad can only console her while they continue the search.

I think its more sad that it was a normal family because that means Subaru left his parents behind 😔 they’re still in the real world. And he probably has no way to go back. Also a little bit of context, the pain Subaru felt was immense guilt and regret and anxiety. Also Subaru has super low self-esteem. I had the same exact issue as him, I think so similar to Subaru thats its actually kinda scary how the author got it almost exactly like me. He just felt like he was never good enough and that he could never make real connections with people because he expected too much from himself. It didn’t help that he was always compared to his dad, who was a super popular and amazing person that got along with everyone. Im just kinda ranting now but yea thats why I love this show so much. I relate to Subaru so much, I’m even loud and cringey like him lmao. Great video btw i loved the reaction!

Yea the dialog and relationship portrayed are so realistic. I'm sure majority of people have felt this way some time in their life; comparing themselves and not feeling like they are good enough for whatever reason. It really digs at your heart when it's something you can relate to. This episode has changed my opinion of Subaru so much. I'm really glad they added this backstory.

@@JDanime Yes, definitely. I liked Subarus character before but this made me like him 10x more than I already did. I read this like, 3 years ago and ive been a huge fanboy since then of the series. He’s such a relatable main character. My bad for the late reply, didn’t see this is in my notifs. You guys are fun to watch tho! Yes, this is super relatable. Also very few anime can keep you on your toes in an episode with just conversations and no action. For me what makes this anime insanely amazing is the psychological part. Subaru in the end is a kid with flaws put in a lot of brutal situations. You can feel how everything is affecting him more and more as it builds up. When I think of all the other garbage isekai, I'd say rezero is like a parody to the parody. Takes in all the cliche you would see at the others (harem, op powers, comedy) and makes a super meaningful story on a serious tone with very realistic like characters. Can't wait for you to watch the rest of the episodes...it gets better and better

3:45 he's getting hurt because he's ashamed about not going to school and living up to his father's name (4:45) - so he's having panic attacks/anixety when reminded of it. This also means Subaru was projecting when yelling at Julius - telling him he was just 'a daddy's boy who inherited everything'
