Today I realise why Subarus have the poor reputation for reliability, and tell you a little more about my daily life, and some ‘trick’ stuff I got for the car!

Another great update. All of this takes time. Patience is a highly rated virtue. It can be painful and, at times, a pain in the ass. I'm looking forward to you enjoying your prize. I am also looking forward to future content with your new adventures in motorsports. BTW. Let me know if you need another order of the jumbo bin bags. It has been a minute since I sent you some. I can look up the last order date. Probably 5-6 months ago. Also can you let me know if the Barum/Lamborghini orange "Dramm" hose nozzle made it to you. Take care Isaac. Be good. Remain safe. Matt

Damn! The waiting would be hard to bear but, now more money too. You'll get there and if your anything like me, you'll grow to feel like the car is a part of you, as long as it doesn't give you too much more troubles.

Oh....as far as reliability issues of used vehicles..... I have owned a 1972 Chevrolet G20 van since new. I have freshened up the motor 3 times. It still has the original bottom end. I have replaced the starter twice. The transmission has been rebuilt once. I am about to start a total restoration. It was my Christmas present to me in 1972. December 27th. I used it as my race van for over 2 decades. It is still in use for my restoration business. Over 675,000 miles. Keep up with the maintenance.

Sorry to hear of these issues. Old Subarus are not getting any younger and somethings need replacing. Once it you have it sorted out you'll have a smile as wide as the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Hanging there mate.

A syringe, a little length of hose and a can of carb cleaner. Bit of time and patience and injectors will be as clean as a whistle from a dribble down their chin too a nice fine mist. Oh and a bit wire, a switch and a 12v power source you need. Great vid Issac.

Nothing wrong with Subarus reliability. Issues come from modifying for more power wit stock engine parts. Fuel pumps and alternators can go on any car at anytime. Might have a bad load of fuel. It should be good when it’s all sorted.

make sure the injectors are the correct impedence for the ECU or it wont work right....i would find some Subaru injectors for the car because the map WILL have to be adapted to different flow injectors, as well.
@BarumExtra8 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment, although they are (traditionally) a Nissan part, these injectors came off this engine and are actually meant to be on it! They were used from factory on the EJ20X!

I`ve got a Subaru Impreza WR1 alternator to repair. It was charging a little but not a lot. I`m suspecting a diode open circuit so it`s only charging on 2 phases. Customer reports car running rough so low voltage is not going to help. Perhaps something needs resetting after a problem.
@kenmcnaughton58828 ай бұрын
I don't think it is a Suburu unreliability thing, more a component issue. Fuel pumps can fail on any car.
@judgementalTX8 ай бұрын
Are you sure the juddering isn't the torque converter? I've had two cars like that. Usually find it does it at peak torque in lower gears
@BWGPEI8 ай бұрын
Well, we've had no less than 8 Subaru cars over the years. Nothing but wear & tear to fix, and being in a rust belt, that does indeed happen.I hope you have equal luck.
@terencehawkes39338 ай бұрын
I hope you'll get your Subie sorted out. I wonder about your juddering issue. If your engine runs fine at full power, the fuel pump must be OK. So I'd be looking for something else. Could it be that your uprated injectors are delivering too much fuel at low loads and revs? Just a thought.

From experience I would say Subaru Engines and cars are very reliable. Having Beaten the shit out of so many plus my own RCM WRX. I did spin a bearing though. DOH! My Friends Subaru did the same and he has just kept driving it lol. Clearly hear its knackered but it just keeps going. Been about 4 years now lol. How they won the Rallies. They could finish them. Look under a good STI and all the forged aluminium subframes and suspension. For a 90's car that's mental!!!
@stevecmason-rs6vf8 ай бұрын
Isaac, stuff fails. It gets old and wears out. Even new cars have issues! With luck, you'll have it to drive soon.
@bendenham41868 ай бұрын
Who's doing the work on the Subaru? Could the issue not be diagnosed properly rather than playing parts roulette? Seems like a lot of maybe this, maybe that! Good idea to specialise in something alongside your day to day work, if you get known in the Subaru community it gives you a possible career path!

This isn't Subaru, this is what happens when you buy a broken car and leave it off the road for half a year. Bits break from standing still after being on their last legs. The slightest bit of corrosion on the worn contacts makes them fail. Don't be surprised if some more bits will fail in the near future because of the same.

Get the gearbox serviced !
@dennissheridan15508 ай бұрын
Isaac are trying to give Subaru's a bad rep? They are like any other car on the road, if you maintain them properly they will give you good service. I've had three so far and the only on to give me trouble was the first, an "80" FWD stick shift, the trans went out in it. Got it fixed and it went on perk'n along until wife decided she wanted a new car, so it got traded in on something, can't remember what. The next one was a 2021 and the third, current, is a 2023, neither of which gave or has given any trouble. My wife is the driver, she colluded with my doctor to keep me from renewing my license so I don't drive anymore, bummer. She has the oil changed and has it inspected regularly, and has done so she took over the chauff's duties, a very smart lady she is.

Seems that the issue isn't "Subaru Reliability" but rather the mechanic who isn't checking things like the alternator and such. Easy check to make, no excuse for mot making sure. The "Reliability" Issue is the guy who is putting the engine in the car and doing the final stuff before delivery. Fail
@MegaReddevil718 ай бұрын
The subaru will come good in the end
@fc3sboy18 ай бұрын
It's not an issue of Subaru reliability the issue is who your having doing the work or at least how you explained it. Kinda ao8nds like you need a new mechanic
@BarumExtra8 ай бұрын
Why? He’s doing a great job. The car has sat for a long time, so it’s hard to tell what’s going to need replacing and what isn’t. He’s put lots of hours in to it & made sure to test drive the car at every opportunity to ensure the car is going to get me home when I collect
@fc3sboy18 ай бұрын
@BarumBTS because a mechanic with honest intention and ability would NOT just throw parts at a car without proper diagnosis. Also a proper mechanic weather it's on a normal street every day vehicle or performance import would sort the car out 100% before calling the owner up to say its ready then not have it ready. Now it could be just the way your explained it but as a mechanic and a fabricator myself along with normal day to day mechanic stuff I also due performance and race car stuff and I would never let a client think his vehicle is ready before it's not I would also 100% go over a car such as yours inspecting everything get a full list and options for repair then call the client to get the OK then do all the service work then put the finished car threw it's paces then once and only once the car is fully done would I have the client come get it. Subaru are touchy yes but they are very very simple to get right period. No matter what the model is.

So an aged fuel pump and a Alternator means a brand of car is unreliable? That includes 100% of all cars then. I understand your disappointed I would be too. Good luck with the Scooby.
@BarumExtra8 ай бұрын
I don’t think they’re unreliable, just playing off what many people seem to say in the comments! I totally agree anyway, been sat for 8 months, and on the road for 21years! It’s done very well for that amount of time

@@BarumExtra My legacy was sat up for a couple years whilst I had the engine /box out (EZ30 needing timing chain, seals etc) and when it came back to getting it back on the road there were quite a few niggles and teething problems (still are!). The bonus is these cars are generally pretty easy to work on and not overly complex!
