I can't imagine gaining much with a larger IC on an STI but I could be wrong. Anyhow, I went with the same IC for the same reasons, my WRX is my daily driver and I log a lot of miles on it...29k in 10 months. So reliability is very important to me. Now with that said, I can't leave a vehicle stock. So i installed a lot of other things at the same time, Perin Large charge pipe, Catted J-Pipe, Titanium COBB CAT, COBB CAI, and COBB Accessport generic Stage 2 tune. I did a lot more but that is about it on the performance side. Oh, I also installed a set of aftermarket wheels weighing 10lbs less than the factory wheels. So i can't say for certainty that one part did what. I will say they car is responsive and fun to drive. My next mods is a water/air seperator and Stage 2 or 3 clutch. I'm going call it quits after that and wait till the 22' STI.

Is it still true that the carbon fiber intake is making less nose then the normal sf?
@Scoobyfreak86
@Scoobyfreak86 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I’ve had both. The sf is a bit more audible over the redline. Metal resonates sound frequencies more so than carbon.

Also another negative to note with FMIC that I rarely see get mentioned is basically all of them require the front crash bar to be removed, which is the main reason I’m avoiding getting one.

Great point! Didn’t think of that one.
@matd8958

Now they do incorporate the crash bar in fmic. I believe grimmspeeds does . There couple others also that do
@kaigannon6495
@kaigannon6495 3 жыл бұрын
@@matd8958 For the VA chassis, they don't incorporate the OEM crash bar, brands like Grimm speed, cobb and ETS have an aftermarket chassis brace that just keeps structural rigidity, but doesn't offer the same reinforcement in the event of a front impact, which could also potentially void an insurance policy as well. Just wouldn't like my chances on a daily driven car. I trust myself on the road, just not others. 😂
@matd8958

@@kaigannon6495 im not that far in my build but they sure look like oem crash bar just modifications to go around fmic. Your right its not the oem crash bar its stronger the aftermarket cant be to far behind it in toughness in case of crash. Havent tested just my opinion . I see you have an iag aos as well. Did you have any fitment issues while installing the tmic? I hear the grimmspeed tmic is an absolute pain to get on with that aos so I’m debating whether I just skip the tmic and just upgrade to fmic and be done with it lol
@Scoobyfreak86
@Scoobyfreak86 3 жыл бұрын
Fits no problem. It took a bit longer due to the aos lines and where they are ran since it goes right under the turbo inlet. However, I managed to get it on and it fits no problem.
@toooodie8750
@toooodie8750 2 жыл бұрын
I had issues installing this as it literally felt like it didnt want to fit for some reason. The only way i got this one was doing the turbo inlet hose separately then managing the clamp in a way to where i can get an 8mm socket on it. Royal pain but worth it for the temps lol

Nice video and stunning engine bay buddy. My only concern is that air travels to the easiest route to flow. Cutting that rubber will direct the air across the top of the intercooler and out the back of the engine bay. You want to air to travel through the intercooler fins, which is now the less easiest route. The stock air ram has four rubber seals for a reason, to make sure air doesn't escape and forces air through the intercooler. Your idea may still work a little, but be less efficient imo. Only my opinion buddy and again great video. 👍
@Scoobyfreak86
@Scoobyfreak86 3 жыл бұрын
I only trimmed it enough so the air gets to the top of the intercooler. It still seals against the intercooler well. I might pick up the grimmspeed ducting to try it out so we will see. Just experimenting!

I might go Perrin since theirs seems to be the largest Update: running the grimmspeed set up with the splitter honestly zero complaints made 352WHP and 340 tq on a lower rating dyno with a smaller 20g. Eventually plan on installing an IAT bung on the intercooler to track data
