Subaru WRX Genting Hill Climb - I Never Expected This Car Could Be This Good! | YS Khong Driving

I must admit I have been listening to the wrong people or perhaps I was prejudiced - when I drove this Subaru WRX (auto) for the first time I had to double-check the brochure to confirm that it was actually running a CVT - and if I have to choose a CVT, this would be the one I would choose.
Even in stock form, it is potent, and would make a great combo car for work during the week and double up as a weekend sporty and fun car.
And if you won't face any resistance from your other half (home minister) because this is a bona fide 4 door sedan, with a boot, and is an auto that she can drive to market too.

To those who wondering, subaru have 2 type of CVT which is TR580 (250nm rating )and TR690 (400nm rating). This WRX using TR690 and this is far more superior and it used on those high hp model for subaru.... Anyway most of people will still prefer conventional GB..

the problem with subaru boxer that you want to up the performance ,you need to have the proper supportive mod or else it will just blow up as seen too many cases especially in the US, just tune alone won't do wonders but i still give credit on how good subaru has done to the cvt , the new wagon looks like a promising fun family dad car.

Notice that Uncle Khong seldom checks what are tire makes and models on his Genting run. A good driver indeed let the set of tires adapt to his drive style than having the driver reconciles to the tires.

A good driver adapts to the car's characteristics. Arrogant drivets demamd that tbe car ahould match his driving style. I ser what the car can do and drive it accordingly, so whayever the tyre may be, doesn't matter - it is whatever that comes with tbe car, and cannot be changed for the drive.

For me, know what the car can do is more important. For eg, no point putting a race spec sticky car to a stock standard MPV as the whole car is not designed to be driven aggresively. It is more like putting a set of tyre based on vehicle spec, driver behaviour and the usage of the vehicle itself

Depends on the model and depends on the size of your wallet. Audi RS models are almost of supercar status, whereas this one is more affordable, but still fun.

I wasn't impressed by the CVT on Levorg (1st gen) 2.0T which is now WRX SportsWagon. The car felt heavy and the simulated gears were so fake, also can't get use to the sound of the CVT... I wasn't impressed by the Direct-Shift CVT on TNGA Corolla either (when it was released in Australia I got to drive it for ~3000km), 1 unique thing though - it has a start gear so it starts like a conventional AT and then transitions to CVT.

CVT should not be used in performance cars 😊 The high engine torque will cause premature failure on the belt.

Subaru uses chain type CVT, and the other guy said the one in WRX is rated for 600Nm.
