My Week with the 2021 Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye

I spend a week with the 797 HP Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye Widebody to see what it's like to live with one of these beasts. In addition to the hilarious fun of the screaming supercharger, insane power and wheelspin, the Charger Redeye experience is a special one. Mainly because these supercharged V8s are a dying breed and likely won't be around much longer. The Charger Hellcat Redeye is truly the pinnacle of this golden era of muscle cars that we've been living in, and it will be missed greatly when it's gone. What do you think of the Redeye Charger? My grandpa was an engineer at dodge from the 60's through the 90's and he was so proud when they established dodge as a "fun" brand. He would be proud of these engines and even more proud they're putting it in everything for the sake of fun.

Completely agree on the GT500 vs the Red Eye, if there is anything negative to say about the Mustang is the lack of noise. I drove it at Texas Motor Speedway when the Ford Performance track tour came through and it’s incredible but it doesn’t have that banshee scream in the Red Eye! Well done Dodge, well done.

Amazing review Matt as always. Your review of the Redeye Widebody Charger is spot on. I own both a 19’ charger hellcat and a 19’ Redeye Widebody Challenger.. by the way you can upgrade tires on the car like for instance I installed 315 555R2 Nittos on the factory 11s for the Redeye hooks really well with those. For the charger I put 10.5 inch replica rims and 295 Michelin PS4s for the rears And 285 fronts.. makes the car much better handling and way better traction over stock. I love when you say the hellcat is 90 percent a Redeye.. that interpretation is very accurate. BTW if you get an aftermarket CAI it pronounces that whine even more.

A regular Scat Pack is a handful to drive in the rain. I can't begin to imagine driving this in the rain. It's something to consider if someone is considering one of these for daily driving or even road tripping where there is a possibility of rain.

Just don't gun it I'm the rain and you'll be fine. It drives fine I'm the rain. The moment you give it some torque in the rain you will spin guaranteed

@@kevindevany2605 I disagree. It requires a very light throttle. Gunning will put you in a ditch. Even moderate throttle will spin the wheels.

@@darrell9616 Yes, if you drive it in track mode. If it's raining, flip it to eco mode and you'd have to purposely push the car to lose traction in the rain. I can't speak for 6 speeds though.

Great video awesome car, the redeye is an awesome vehicle but another option if your on more of a "budget" a base challenger hellcat with a manual starts at 60k not too bad although that is a base car no widebody keep up the good work matt

I agree. Blacking everything out is so overdone these days. What ever happened to making cars gleam all over. I have a '19 Challenger Scat Pack Widebody in Octane Red with gold metallic. I love every square inch of it and would never dream of covering any of it with boring flat black.

I’ve always liked his reviews the most out of anyone. And he reviews everything, and isn’t a fanboy. And he just has a love for really anything. Great review of the Hellcat Redeye. Yeah that supercharger whine would be horrible lol. I used his review quite a bit when I bought my X3 M40i. Sounds that don’t get old are the Hellcats, even the regular 392’s, but that supercharger 👍🏻. Boxer engines, and the I6 in Beemers and V6 in MB’s and Skylines (thinks it’s an I6?). And Vettes, my retirement toy, but I’ll drive that SOB.

I would love to be able to afford one of these beauties! For comparison’s sake - I get 29mpg on the highway in my ‘17 Scat Pack when kept to 65mph (from TX to the East coast). I get 19 combined mpg when I focus on NOT hooning and being an a-hole, lol.

My testing procedure has always been focused on what it’s like to live with a car. So running errands, visiting friends, etc seems to be pretty similar to how most people realistically use a car. I wish I had the disposable time to do a road trip every week, I love road trips, but I’m a busy guy lol.

I did in mine I just put it in eco mode set the cruise control and I got 22.5 mpg from Greensboro NC to Myrtle Beach SC ( about 200 miles) it didn’t take a half of tank .you just can’t put your foot in it just set the cruise to the speed limit and you can get 22mpg. my car is in the thumb nail
