Joe's story about that guy making 83k but taking home only 40k because of taxes is BS. I'm in SoCal and making about 80k as an engineer. My take home is about 52.5k from all my deductibles such as taxes, health insurance, 401k, life insurance, retirement, etc. That guy must be paying for other things that are way overpriced in order to have only 50% take home BEFORE rent. A lot is still being taken out, but both federal and cali state tax alone are less than 14% for me and most likely for that guy, not 50% like Joe was talking about.

Same things happening in the U.K. with money issues. Me and my fiancé are trying to save up to get married nothing grand or big because we can’t afford it. My dream was to be a mother with a family and in a house by now. We’ve had to give up having kids and Ive just turned 30 and my time is ticking and it looks like we will never be able to afford to have kids. Families on food banks here in the U.K. and getting kicked out of their homes so landlords can sell them and then houses being given away to other people outside of the community and us pushed to the bottom of the ladder. I thought by the age of 25 I’d be married with kids in a house but at 30 we are struggling to pay for a 1 bedroom flat (apartment but not like a big apartment you have in America they are tiny) struggling to save to get married and 0 hopes of having kids and it’s looking like I never will. But I’m being told to try harder and just have kids anyway when this is the world we’re living in ? Crime going up my area were I can’t even go outside alone without the worry of something happening (never been like that growing up as a kid everyone looked out for one another until people started moving up here) my kids coming into a world were there is calls for war and saying we have to send kids to fight. Not being able to afford to give them a normal life. Why would I put my kid through that ? I want nothing more than to be a mum but if I’m struggling and so is my fiancé why would we put our kid through that. It’s heart breaking and it makes me very bitter and angry that il miss out on being a mum but what choice do I have ?

One thing I think is interesting is while cost of living may be higher your percentage of investment is as well. So many people are moving to places like Tennessee and thriving after struggling in Cali or New York. This is particularly true when your 401k match has been consistently based on higher incomes outside of cost of living. Your ability to actually retire becomes much more plausible...or on a percentage to percentage basis all things being equal

The downside of the whole tax proposal where the federal tax will be eliminated is that tariffs would have to ridiculously increase which is NOT a good thing for businesses, and for us because that means the imported materials that we rely on for cheap goods that we consume or that businesses need to produce whatever good will cost more which in the case for businesses, will reflect on their prices which affects consumers. Free trade which is the lack of tariffs on imported products though have negatively harmed the American domestic industry, has greatly benefitted consumers and businesses making it easier and affordable to make and purchase goods. Like I think Nick said, its kinda of a fantasy idea. If voters want to see less federal tax on their income, that could come through 1.) Fixing loopholes that billionaires use to pay 0 in tax. If this is fixed, then their taxed income could result in the middle to lower class income tax rate to decrease because the government would have theirs to make up for the loss in tax revenue. 2.) Audit the military industrial complex. The overwhelming majority of our taxed income does not go into social services but rather the vagueness of the military budget. A lot of that money goes to the pentagon and is then wasted or suddenly disappears. The Pentagon has never passed an audit so that means a lot of our money is not being properly used. If we can audit exactly where our taxed revenue is going into and put some restrictions on its use when it comes to the military budget, that may result in taxed income for the military budget being used more efficiently and perhaps a lesser burden on tax payers.

In all seriousness, I am not voting for Trump because Trump reminds me of those traveling salesmen from back in the day. The ones who would go around hawking their wares, talking a big game and pedaling their "magic" elixir that they claimed will "cure all your problems", when in actuality, in the long run it doesn't cure your problems and in fact would most likely cause more harm than good. And all it really does is make the "traveling salesman" richer off of a person's hard earned money, that they claim they can't afford to lose or spend freely because "times are tough and the economy is bad, so people can't even afford the basics"... and yet Trump expects them to buy his merch to help pay his legal expenses. A good example also of Trump is from the "Last Speech" from the movie "American President", if you switch out "Bob Rumson" for Trump. Esp. the part in the speech where "The President" says, "We have serious problems to solve, and we need serious people to solve them. And whatever your particular problem is, I promise you, Bob Rumson is not the least bit interested in solving it. He is interested in two things and two things only: making you afraid of it and telling you who's to blame for it. That, ladies and gentlemen, is how you win elections." Another point I want to make is that a person is only as good as the company they keep. And considering Trump is surrounded by people that have committed criminal acts, and gone to jail for the things they have done for him, as well as lawyers that have been disbarred for the things they have done for Trump, it doesn't speak highly for his character. Nor does the part as Steve mentioned, that Trump is a convicted felon.

Okay, if you really want to know. There are so many reasons why I wouldn't vote for Trump. In all seriousness, I am not voting for Trump because Trump reminds me of those traveling salesmen from back in the day. The ones who would go around hawking their wares, talking a big game and pedaling their "magic" elixir that they claimed will "cure all your problems", when in actuality, in the long run it doesn't cure your problems and in fact would most likely cause more harm than good. And all it really does is make the "traveling salesman" richer off of a person's hard earned money, that they claim they can't afford to lose or spend freely because "times are tough and the economy is bad, so people can't even afford the basics"... and yet Trump expects them to buy his merch to help pay his legal expenses. Have you ever watched the movie "The American President"? There is a part in the movie deemed "the Final Speech" where if you were to switch out "Bob Rumson" for Trump it seems to describe Trump rather well.
