I remember playing this song for my dad when I was young. The music grabbed his attention even though he didn't listen to this kinda rock. Then the lyrics got his attention even more. When it ended, he said he really liked it. My dad ended up borrowing the cd from me to listen to at work. He loved Sublime's music. He passes away 12 years ago at 54 years old. I miss him and listening to good music with em.

I used to 'force' my mum to listen to my music in the car. She really liked Sublime but the Dead Kennedys, Pennywise etc a bit less so. She'd often give me a lift to the beach and I'd surf all day and she'd wait... Lost her 7 years ago, she was also 54. I'll raise a glass for them

I told my 18 yr old son that in the 90's, artists wouldn't sugarcoat things and we loved it. Whether was Sublime's "Date Rape", Nirvana's "Rape Me", The Cranberries "Zombie", No Doubt's "I'm Just a Girl", pretty much anything by Rage Against the Machine, or countless other songs, tv shows, and movies... people in the 90's didn't hold back. There was a blunt acknowledgement of drug use, aids, sexual assault, abuse, racism, sexism, political & corporate greed/power, LGBT issues, violence & war, etc during that time.

I think it further justifies the fact that clothes don't equal consent, in the same way that flirting isn't consent. This is actually a really great song. Polygraph eyes by Yungblud has a similar message as well.
