Thank you, Gary for this and the other two vids. That part where you stuck the camera below the main aft engine room deck was great, as i've never seen that area. My nephew and i spent a night aboard with his scout troop, many years ago, loved the experience. We slept in the first row of crew bunks, entering from the crew mess. Also, i liked the part in the walk through vid where you stuck the camera up into the conning tower. We were'nt allowed to climb up at the time we visited.

our subs were huge compared to the German U-boats! I have been on U-505, a Type IX boat at the Museum of Science & Industry Chicago. Our boats were spacious in comparison!

While trying to watch the series I don’t remember if it was mentioned how much total fuel it could carry and in how many tanks? I just can’t help wondering what the fuel bill would be if they were all filled at once. Also I’m curious if anyone took photos or videos of it when coming out of mothballs? I’d hate to see the documentation become lost and seeing the work progress over time. It’s a testament to your groups dedication to this living memorial.

That's a Fairbanks-morse opposed piston engines! Most of the American fleet used them they were very powerful for there time. They even tried building locomotives but less successful

This is my first time I've visited my own vid since I posted it in 2011! I have another vid. of same event but w/ 23K visits. Re. room/space, yes, American subs had more space, because they had to be built big enough to operate in the Pacific theater, vs. the German subs only had to PRIMARILY (albeit not exclusively) operate in the smaller Atlantic & Mediterranean theater/s. Yes, I too toured the German sub in Chicago, and the space difference is quite noticeable. I also toured the Nautilus, and that nuclear sub is very spacious by comparison. I understand that there is a sole surviving type XXI German sub open for touring that is also on my 'bucket list' :-). Wear earplugs if you are ever so fortunate like I was, to hear those diesels ROAR! (the out-door/park wedding afterwards was very nice & 'uneventful,'.... just the way I like 'em!)
