I think a huge key to Max winning is if he uses his front leg kicks to keep Ilia from entering fast. Max needs to use those front leg kicks to kick at Ilias knee cap.

I think the problem with that is if he does it too often, Illia will start catching them and get Holloway down.

Max has excellent footwork, so even without leg kicks, he can easily get out of the way if Illia charges him. I've watched fighters try this hundreds of times over the years, and not only will Max sidestep him, Max will also throw counter punches and kicks.

Anyone else think Ngannou’s a much harder fight for Aspinall than Jones is? The Gane win isn’t enough on the resumé for me to believe in Jones at HW. And Jones (much closer to his prime) had such trouble with Santos and Reyes that I need to see a lot more time in the octagon at HV to believe that he can give Aspinall or Ngannou a tough fight.
@Journeyman258511 сағат бұрын
I honestly have no idea, and none of us will actually know unless we can see them fight.
@jeffbrown-ek8bg11 сағат бұрын
Nope, it's just trendy to hate Jones. Jones will always be the hardest fight for any fighter. That being said, Ngannou could defeat Tom, but Tom could defeat Ngannou, jones defeats both of them. Tom is levels above everyone else though.
@MuhammadImardBruceLee11 сағат бұрын
Yes, fully. Ngannou is a rough prospect to blitz down and to try and take down. With jones tom doesn't need to look for the takedown, it would be on jones to try and get it to the ground to avoid punching with Tom. That's far easier said than done, tom is a good grappler and has about 20lb on jon if both are in good shape
@saafgoyam150511 сағат бұрын
With Jones you are never in danger of being sent to shadow realms, whereas with Ngannou you can never feel safe. So yeah I understand where you are coming from.
@wesj106411 сағат бұрын
Jones is a winner, even if the judges steal it for him which means it's hard to bet against him. Aspinal fights with his chin way up in the air and to his credit doesn't ever have to make it out of the first round so it's hard to believe Toms the guy until we see a larger body of work. Now Francis, he's legit the true #1 guy. Jones/Francis is the fight. After that, Tom bats cleanup.

Edwards took him down in round one of their second fight and took his back. Also, khamzat faced an 11 day notice of usman UP a division.
@Mr-E.9 сағат бұрын
I think that Rob's takedown defense might actually be better than Usman's takedown defense. Usman's knees were completely wrecked and he has to walk down stairs backwards. I imagine that would compromise his takedown defense a lot. I also noticed that UFC fighters with D1 wrestling backgrounds seem to get taken down... for some reason their wrestling skills don't translate that well when it comes to takedown defense. For example, Justin Gaethje was taken down fairly easily and he was D1. Henry Cejudo was taken down by Merab. Usman taken down by Khamzat. I am only mentioning this because I think Robert Whittaker is faster and healthier than Usman and he has been focusing a lot on his wrestling and has a wrestling background himself (not as prestigious but it is solid). Will Khamzat take Whittaker down? Probably! But I think it will be MORE challenging than Khamzat taking Usman down. Just my opinions!

When it comes to the likelihood of prior head trauma effecting a combat athletes durability it’s less about the 1 punch. It’s more about how the accumulation of damage affects the athletes decision making in fight. A jab is enough to disorientate someone with a recent concussion. So, the question is not whether Illa had the power to KO Volkanovski. It whether he would have been trapped and caught if not due to the prior head trauma and quicker decline of decision making. MMA pundits are not neurologist. Love Luke, but he’s out here triggering all us aussies 😅

@ziongite7 сағат бұрын
Chimaev is a hype job, I doubt he will ever capture the belt. But fans are easily hyped by media that hype these guys up, fans don't think for themselves often, which is why so many times we have these hype job fighters that are meant to be the second coming of Jesus, yet they end up just fizzling out into nothing and never get to the top. Rob, Volk and Dricus were underdogs in the majority of their wins, the betting odds are largely gauged on hype, not on an objective analysis of the fighters. Stardom plays a huge role. Chris Weidman was still the underdog in the second fight against Anderson Silva, after Chris has already KO'd him in the first fight, stardom and hype power overshadow the facts often, especially when the media create all this hype and influence the fans and people betting.

@toziassmitt3 сағат бұрын
It’s not absurd. I’m British, I’m an Aspinall fan. Even Tom himself would admit that’s a 50/50 fight- Tom has said if he fights Francis he would have to be absolutely perfect the entire fight, and that would be extremely difficult. Any fight at heavyweight could go either way, and Francis has the proven record You can certainly disagree- that’s reasonable. But to say it’s “absurd” to say Francis beats Tom? No, it’s not absurd at all. That would be a -150 to -125 type fight

I am Australian and you don't pick fighters on emotions, khamzat will win and yes the reaper should be the underdog. Khamzat is too good for the entire division. And this gas-tank nonsense is about "pace" not cardio, yes he doesn't have the greatest cardio in the world, Rob has much better cardio, but it still does not matter, khamzat could still hurt him in round 5.

Robert has been the underdog in most of his wins, as has Dricus. If you think the betting is objective and unbiased, you are a fool. The betting odds are highly influenced by hype and star power, as well as where the person is from, fighters from lesser known countries often are underrated and are underdogs and then win almost all their fights despite being underdogs, Dricus is a classic example of that, as if Rob, in most of Rob's wins he was the underdog. Heck the same was true for Volkanovski as well, he was the underdog in almost all his wins. Belal is another, underdog in almost all his wins. Then you have guys who are the opposite, and were favourites in the majority of their losses, simply because they had more hype and star power etc. Heck there were literally real life fools betting on Conor to beat Floyd Mayweather in boxing, that should tell you how delusional some people betting are.
