“Submission = Covering”: as humans who are created to connect and live in community with one another, when you submit you are agreeing to be covered, supported, encouraged, cared for by another. In marriage, the Bible says to submit to each other. Door mat is not submission. Laziness is not submission. Seeing the strength in another and allowing that individual to lead in that area with your trust is submission. Okay…back to watching…y’all are making some great points while speaking about your personal experiences/lives. THANK YOU!

Yes. Submission is "coming under leadership" husbands submit to the Lord, wife submits to husband's leadership because she knows he's being led by God alone. A lot of people view submission as one person being "weaker" or using it as a tool to control and have power. It's not gender roles. It's all about you and your spouse (because we aren't submitting to boyfriends ladies) dying to yourself daily and having reciprocity within your relationship as well.

She just offered it because that how she feels like she's showing her worth in their relationship. What other women need to know is that Cam Newton is supplying a certain life style which makes her comfortable enough to be able to do all of that stuff. The bible calls husbands to be loving leaders, and submission is a natural response to that love. I think Angel said it best on Here'sTheThing: "Submission does not equal servitude." And if we're being honest, *women* aren't supposed to submit, *WIVES* are called to submit. So don't be surprised if your girlfriend doesn't submit to you, she's not supposed to. Submissive always defaults to servitude and it is very strange to me. Being a submissive wife is more than just serving your husband. Maybe is the 40s and 50s that was the default definition because women had no rights and could not work. I believe being submissive is being okay with not having to take the lead on everything in your life as a woman. Hopefully your husband is one you trust to take the lead in your family in the areas he’s strong in and you take the lead in areas you are strong in. To me, it is common sense in 2022 that in order for your family to thrive it takes trust and submitting to each other’s strengths. Egos and archaic beliefs have no place in a healthy family unit. Idk, this is just my opinion.
@annyetta8902 жыл бұрын
My personal perspective on submission is that it isn't so much which roles or tasks each partner takes on for the household, but a dynamic where one partner defers to the other as the "leader" and most, if not all, decisions are made by the "leader". I'm not a submissive person and my spouse isn't either. We typically act independently of one another except for major decisions or when we need to coordinate schedules or care/supervision for the kids.
@MzHues2 жыл бұрын
What it comes down to is making sure you are with someone who brings value to your life and you bring value to theirs. I believe that there is nothing wrong with submitting to each other. If I, as a woman, am treating you with love and respect then you should be doing the same with me. All the rest is discussions and compromise.

Women want to be submissive, but men especially in US often don't know how to be dominant. So it is not about her attitude, it is his personality also. With dominance you have to take responsibility, well the latter is missing in nowadays guys.

I’ve always believed/been taught that we are all submissive to someone. Men are to submit to Christ, Christ submits to God. A wife and a husband submit to each other/work together as a surgeon and anesthesiologist work together. What a lot of immature and insecure people thinks being submissive is submitting to demands or requirements that are contrary to your natural personality. Doing what she’s told without question. That is a child, that is not a partner. So I’m glad that you both clarified that for those that needed it. I don’t mind submitting if I can trust you and you have proved yourself to be trustworthy and to put me in the family first. And you’re good at it . As long as you trust me to handle things I am better at.

I can honestly say I'm the person Tank described Angel to be. I take care of my house but when I get with someone I need to see where his strengths are and then run parallel. Between the 2 of us, we'll cover down on everything for the household. There are times when I may have to step up more and vice versa. So, I don't want to do everything for someone nor do I want someone to do everything for me. I want a partnership. Good episode guys 👍🏾

Submission is not servitude or meekness. I think for this conversation submission should first be defined properly. If you define it according to the Bible, submission is to honor and devote yourself to your partner as you do to God. Idk just my thought. I think we are a bit confused on the definition.

Submission means CHOOSING to put your energy, power, wisdom, and focus into the vision of the person who is leading. Most of us live this out every day at work. Your boss has a vision for how to accomplish the work of the business, you take his/her direction, you trust that they can see and are managing the bigger picture, and you work to be excellent in whatever role you have. In return for your work, you get regular, reliable benefits (pay, insurance). If your boss is a poor leader, abuses or takes advantage of you, you don’t submit very long or you escalate to a higher authority. Now if we are able to do this for strangers, with a decent attitude (I hope), why would we give less to our committed spouse and partner in life? Submission is not slavery or subservience, it’s not shameful and it doesn’t mean you have less value. Until we all understand what submission means, and why it’s necessary for harmonious relationships, we will continue to see perversions around it. We have to guard our hearts and minds.

Sadly no one has had a chance to teach this young lady. I don’t have a problem with submission. My husband isn’t going to do anything to me that is going to harm me and that’s why I have no issue with it. Submission goes both ways in a relationship. I think couples submit all of the time. I think it’s simply what you said, you do what works in your home so that it runs smoothly.

As a person that can be indecisive at time it’s nice to have someone that is more knowledgeable or experienced to take the lead. Aside from that I think maintaining a home and rearing child is a joint venture as you all stated. I don’t mind cooking for my man now and again but I’d prefer we cooked together because that quality time spent together but if he working late I’d make sure he have dinner when he get home and I would want the same in return.

Ok so from my personal experience in marriage of 11 years submission to me is a choice. When I married my husband I relinquished all of my rights and adopted him as head of household. That was a transition for me coming from a family of strong west Indian women who were more in number in my family than men. As well as a internal struggle not seeing marriage and submission in my family. As my husband's partner I empower him as the person to make the final decision regarding our household. That said as his partner I support him by creating a safe space for him to have peace of mind. Regardless of outcome we arrive together. If he fails to make the best decision i pray next go- round he will be much wiser and i pray for him and not tear him down- we fail together. When we have success we have it together. We assist each other with household items and there are no gender roles in our home. If you graced to perform the task you are selected to take the lead for that particular job. If there are any gaps the other partner jumps in to do what ever it takes to make the bridge for the team to keep it pushing, Period. Don't mean to be deep but consider Jesus being on the cross he "willfully" gave up his life. He did not remind those around him of the power he had or what he could potentially do. Rather he got under just like we would using an umbrella to surrender to the plan/ assignment at hand. That is how I see submission as a choice and to each is own respectfully. Submission is such a special gift and has been a life saver in my marriage personally. I do not believe in Happy wife, happy life and have received some slack for it. Think about it - I'm putting pressure on another person to perform to make me happy as a human that is evolving daily. People change and grow daily. He is not able to live his own life trying to run behind me to make me happy. To me this is lopsided. It's a equal responsibility to assist each other in the team winning- everyone feeling loved, supported, appreciated, prized, valued etc. What I've found in my own relationship is that when my husband is bothered by external or even internal matters our house is weighted with that energy. So now we have the head of my household impacted mentally and possibly emotionally. What type of decisions do you think he will make for our family. Some great points raised in this discussion to think about. Thanks for the opportunity to share a little of how I see submission in my world.

My husband thinks the idea of me submitting to him, or vice versa, is ridiculous, as do I. The prefix, "sub" means below or beneath, so, no, not a word that is used in my household Lol. Now, I'll submit a suggestion, but that's about the only way that word is used. There is mutual respect, and love, everything else flows from there. We both lead in areas we're strong in. I'm not sure when caring for someone became synonymous with submitting to a partner. I feel like the word has taken on a life of its own. If people find value in submitting, good for them. It's not anything I've ever been interested in, or how I've ever seen romantic relationships.

There's a lot of miscommunication out here on both sides. You've got dudes living in their mom's basement talking about they're alpha males (the very concept of which was debunked by its creator) and women out here thinking that because they can write big checks on their own that they don't need men. Men and women need each other but we've got some work to do.

I can understand to extent what ole girl was saying up until she was said she wouldn’t do it for someone making the same amount as her. That lets me know you’re not doing it out of love you’re doing it to feel needed, it’s low key manipulative. People have the wrong idea of what submission is, it’s not acting like a man’s mother. Thinking of what he needs before he needs it is what a mother does for her child. Submission is honoring the same goals for the family you created and each person doing their part but being flexible enough to shift when needed.
