@@nickgirdwood3082 it’s less about patience and more about doubting it’s as good as claimed. There’s also a bit of a vaporware aspect in that they’ve been hyping without a release and a smaller competitors are seeing investors pulling out as a result. That’s the part that concerns me as an end user of these tools. It’s one thing to be patient and an entirely different affair when you suspect it’s vaporware actively harming the market with no actual product in sight. That costs us now never mind waiting for something to come out.

No its primarily so that you can actually use it for storyboards or for character design. You can use this to make the sketches and then you can decide the art style and color palette manually. It actually gives the artist more control. It also means you can take your real sketches and colorize and shade them, and it means you can have a base to animate different poses.

the iphone 1 was announced by Jobs at an Apple Keynote speech in January 2007 and it was in the shops by June I think, so no it was not 2 years, barely 6 months. I know that cos my boss at the time bought everyone an iphone and the company paid the bills.

SB-1047 only seems to covers critical harm, defined by the bill as being things like: "The creation or use of a chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear weapon in a manner that results in mass casualties." -- to say a developer of these models shouldn't be help partially accountable for training on data like that? I dunno, that's a HARD sale for me. Especially since AI already has the means to source its data, but chose not to, and is fighting against laws that would require it, to help ensure copyright holders have some sort of recourse going forward. Much as I have reservations about the competition for human creativity given the speed of AI development, I am relieved to hear about the recent court ruling. If AI was restricted from being influenced by and learning from human artists, imagine the copyright implications that would open up for future human creativity as well. Isn't every human influenced by the work of others in developing something new? The court action smacks of an attempt to own all the most basic building blocks of creativity, which would end up restricting all future commercial artistic works. Or it could mean things are slowing down/people are beginning to realize much of the news is hype. The same establishment that has gas lighted the country about Biden’s mental health for the last 4-5 years is largely responsible for creating these things. The same establishment who has been telling everyone that a woman is anyone who says they are a woman. Same with a man. The same establishment who is overwhelming in support of allowing prepubescent children to “transition” and do permanent damage to their bodies before they are old enough to go see a rated R movie, drink alcohol, vote, drive a car, quit school ect ect. Large numbers of the same group of people will claim that eating unfertilized chicken eggs is akin to murder but simultaneously claim abort ion of a growing human baby is just a clump of cells. That’s totally insane contradictory beliefs. Finally evolutionary theory wasn’t so hard to believe a century ago or even a few decades ago. But knowing what we know about DNA and cellular replication and the totally incomprehensible complexity of the code language of DNA and the information that it contains … The evidence for Intelligent design can’t be denied. The same folks who deny that life is designed will argue that some strange looking stones on mars or a “Wow! Signal” is strong evidence of life. But DNA and amino acids just sprang into existence and accidentally formed into all life on earth. Long periods of billions of years doesn’t help life evolve it actually hurts it. Chemically speaking the stages of organic chemistry and the compounds needed to form each step in the process actually have very short windows of time before they become unusable. But people dislike ID because they hate the possibilities it opens up for discussion.

I doubt 'also handy for opening cans of beans' ever appeared on their Agile Trello board! Also most people, including me, use AI to leverage its capability in apps they are building... that's MOST DEVELOPERS... but not all.... many use them to produce bot farms and scam and security apps. So AI vendors likely will not be given a badge for helping me build an APP but they WILL be responsible for anyone up to no good. Same applies to guns... if 99.99% of people keep a gun locked away 6 feet underground then the manufacturer will not be given a prize... but would be in the dock the second someone uses the product for nefarious purposes... the millions that keep it under the bed locked away are not considered. But nice try to attempt to bury harm among people shooting squirrels and at plastic targets. Won't work though. And as we can see here with this law, the premise that the CREATORS of a product are also responsible for the END USE of said product will now be set in law as a legal precedent .... That makes any similar premise based on the same legal concept more likely if not inevitable. Because one major purpose of law is equitability. So if it applies to AI as a product that might pose dangers, then this principle in law will apply to ANY PRODUCT that poses a danger... and in law when you legislate based on premises those premises become applicable to pretty much anything that falls into the same category. Ie. Facebook could be held liable for teen suicides due to Instagram, car companies can be held responsible for drunk driving. Now California is a state that relies heavily on what's called 'common law' meaning it relies on precedent being set. Precedent is about to be set, meaning any move to hold gun manufacturers responsible will be judged as being perfectly okay since there is existing legislation on the books for just this sort of thing. If you doubt this... well just go look up how California legislates in terms of new laws... its all precedent for the most part. So you can disagree with me, fill your boots, but I am not a judge from California.

In reality, its a very sensible bill that these venture capitalists are trying to portray as some crazy idea, I think Matt should read the Gwern's or Zvi's explanation of what exactly does this bill do, instead of believing venture capitalists with stocks on the line.

The problem is going to be there will be no way to make any money off this, as so many people are thinking. If I'm eventually able to copy paste a whole book into a program that comes out with a movie, I can't sell that. AI is becoming "hey look at this awesome AI tool!" We are like: wow cool, when can we use it? Oh, you will get it after insiders and Hollywood get it and use it...and that's a big maybe, and they will not be the same tools. These companies will make exclusive deals with corporations and hollywood and we will get the leftovers that kinda work but with hefty fees. They saw what happened with AI art and I think Hollywood and industry insiders are set on keeping the general public from top video AI tools if they can. I understand, I too would work hard to keep things status quo, keep the money in my pocket. And the AI companies are not going to look away from these insider opportunities while also guaranteeing avoiding lawsuits. We will still get cool tools, but not top tier video or language tools, never super intelligence, and it will come at cost, I already pay over a hundred a month now for AI tools, over my budget, so I'm cutting streaming and TV subs to do it. But it's break even with some of the savings in productivity so kinda worth it, but mostly entertainment, LOL.

You can run large LLMs on your CPU by using your DDR ram instead Vram on your GPU and DDR ram much cheaper you can buy 128GB and run 70B+ models without an issue just at much lower speed compared to GPU.
