i think the no breaking surface rule should be an exectption for the floating islands because you need to go on them to get all of the achivements and to complete the story

I'm guessing that's where Gun Island comes in. If you enter through the moonpool then use the teleporter I could argue that you can access the islands without technically breaking the surface of the water.

I think the breaking the surface rule should be allowed for areas like the two islands as well as the Aurora, as they contain scannable items and PDAs that can't be found anywhere else. Obviously you should only go there when you need to, not just for air, but I still think you should be allowed to set foot on them for story purposes.

I think there is mods that make it so you can't breathe the surface air meaning no refilling oxygen there

He’s allowed to break the surface indoors, so he can get to the island through the alien base, and he’s counting the aurora area as indoors so it should be possible

Either one or both islands (I forget which) have caves where you can surface, which isn't "outdoors" so it should be allowed.

15:54 yes! I always thought it was interesting that the one who survives the longest was the one who didn't want to exploit or overpower nature. Also, if I remember correctly the Grand Reef PDAs imply that tthey were attacked because Marguerit got the leviathans' attention. (And yeah, BZ does not count. I was so salty when they brought Marguarit back) I really like your narration, especially how you go over the story elements as you encounter them.

I wanted to add a few tips I've heard around, but this advice is unsolicited so apologies if it's unwelcome: "Part 2" makes folks that see the video less likely to watch if they haven't seen part 1. It's better to use descriptive titles like "beating Subnautica without surfacing" or "Subnautica but I'm a vegetarian". A related thumbnail helps a ton too. I've really enjoyed the series and hope it makes it to the feeds of your future fans!

I love it when the rules pop back up to remind the viewer of the details that may be forgotten. i would still always carry at least 2 blader fishes. Those give you 15 seconds more oxygen when eaten and can save you many times from drowning (speaking from experience)

Good tip, but I think our hero can't use it because of rule 6c - Animal Lover: Vegetarian, no eating fauna, filtered water, or nutrient bars. Still a good tip for those of us unburdened by regulations or moral imperatives.

Something you could do for the islands would be building a base that you can enter from underwater and exit on the island itself. That way there's absolutely no air-related benefit derived from going up on land

I think a cool workaround to the no surfacing rule should be that when you go up to the islands, you submerge WITHOUT an oxygen tank, so that the stakes are much higher. Perhaps build a base right below them?

wait, i just realized something. this challenge is impossible with your set rules. to build the rocket, you need to get into the Aurora, which requires surfacing. also the growbeds can only be found in the Floating Island surface, same with the PDAs there, both required for the run. finally, unless you count the moonpool-esque room, you cannot enter the gun base without once again breaking the rules. i would like to propose a rule tweak: you are only allowed to surface within the designated areas and only to reach land: in front of the Aurora, the center of the floating island, the gun base's moonpool, and the gunbase island's underwater cave entrance. this will allow the spirit of the challenge to remain while also making it actually possible

He visited the Degasi Jellyshroom hab either without unlocking the signal, which can only be unlocked from a PDA on the island, or with the signal. Since he clearly HAS the signal in the video, he's broken Rule 4 by being above water. I'm not sure whether the signal on screen is editing goofiness, but in either case, he's failed the run. EDIT: Seems as though he's deleting my top-level comment when I try to post, so hopefully this will remain here.

If you're against using another O2 tank, why not use an air bladder? You can press (F) with an air bladder in hand to replenish some oxygen and it only takes up one inventory slot. Not to mention how it can propel you upwards if you find yourself deep in a cave. I can be a real life saver!
