I am convinced this is the greatest song ever written, no joke, no hyperbole here, every single aspect of it is perfect, the lyrics, the pacing, the structure, the melodies, the harmonies, the counterpoint, the rhythm and time signature used, its positioning on the tracklist, the people who wrote and performed it, everything about it is perfect, I will listen to this until the day I die, if I ever finally stop slacking and get a band together again I would definitely consider covering this song if we could do it any justice. Thank you Wolf Parade, from the bottom of my heart, my all time favorite....

This song had the best music video pairing of all-time ( a Dali-esque film of oppression), however the powers that be took it down. Sad#killme.

I have no idea why, but this song came back into my psyche a few days, and I've been unable to get it out of my head. Although not my all time favourite, it's up there, and although it has stiff competition from "I'll Believe in Anything" as my favourite Wolf Parade song, the sheer quantity of this song tips the balance.

Did the opening band come out and play with them at your shows? When I saw them close a show with this song, that's what happened, and I agree, it was intense, extended, and awesome

[Verse 1: Dan Boeckner] Lost on a river, our hearts beat regular time Well, the landscapes don't, the river's flowing by We're just drifting all night long hands to the sky And the captain, oh, he is never denied [Verse 2: Dan Boeckner] I heard them singing out from shore, hands at the sides Someone brought a rifle overhead to tear at the sky We're just drifting all night long here with the flies And the captain, oh he is never denied [Verse 3: Spencer Krug] As if you didn't know that it would sting Kissing the beehive And pissing down the mountain side in the rain As if you didn't know that it would sting Kissing the beehive And fucking up your finger from pushing on the ring Sing [Verse 4: Dan Boeckner] Well we lay On frigid shores of light We need nothing of his bitter care, oh Something strange And the coast line Still we need nothing of his bitter hand, oh [Verse 5: Spencer Krug] I wish I could believe in you Crashing all the weddings wearing white But we all hate the landlord baby It's all right, it's all right I wish I could believe in who you are You held your cock in the air and you called it a guitar You put your face on the glass and you called it good cinema, oh As if you didn't know that it would sting [Verse 6: Spencer Krug] Jonathan, Jonathan Waterfalls are running thin you know Here's a holy grail for you to hold Fire in the hole, fire in the hole, fire in the hole I'm not a wild party I'm just an evening at the show Put the ring back on and take your husband home Fire in the hole, fire in the hole, fire in the hole [Verse 7: Spencer Krug] Radio, radio Why did you leave Virginia's side It's an alibi, we all know how the music died Fire in the hole, fire in the hole, fire in the hole, fire in the hole Jonathan, Jonathan Waterfalls are running thin you know Here's a finger made from me for you to hold Fire in the hole, fire in the hole, fire in the hole [Verse 8: Dan Boeckner] Estranged from the captain's light And his bitter hand Estranged from the captain's light And his bitter hand

Thank you for this song! We need more songs like this that tell a story more than just a pop chorus.
