Wow just caught watching this now that they have clips of the Exxon Valdez... I seen them in Anchorage, Alaska in either 83 or 84, that oil spill happened a short time after.

There was so much hope and faith that things were really changing for the better. Now it's 2021 and it seems like all that's left is conflict, despair, fear and hopelessness. WTH happened?☹

That was a huge song back then ... still brings back memories and tears of happiness! This song was in the german charts (Scorpions is a german band!) when west- and east-germany was reunited again and the cold war with russia was finally over! So it's part of the german history (although David Hasselhoff still thinks his song "looking for freedom" teared down the wall ^^++gg).

"Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance, it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again."

Being a German Band in the 80s made it more difficult.

Millions of people were killed in the proxy war and although it seems that the fall of the Soviet Union and the Berlin Wall ended it- as long as Superpowers exist we can never be at ease. The country I was born in was and will be always in the crossfire so this song was always a special one for me. Scorpions are a great German band! Try Always Somewhere- I think I already mentioned that song in my comments. ❤️

Scorpions were very good, but, fell in the slot of not getting credit deserved.

Love this song! Appreciate the reaction. Another band from this era, worth taking a dive into, is Boston, who is also still performing. I suggest "Foreplay/Long Time", as a place to start. Peace J

This song may have been commissioned by the CIA as a cultural weapon against the Eastern Bloc during the Cold War-There’s a great podcast about this.
